Specialisms: Software Engineering; Platform Engineering.Job Advert Acts as the platform engineering leadfor the design, development, testing operation and maintenance of a suite of software systems / infrastructure platforms (depending on specialism) to satisfy user requirements. Contributes to strategic development for the specialism, that in turn shapes andsupports delivery of projects, ensuring activities and outputs remain fit for purpose. Drives adherence to the relevant processes, procedures, standards, technical design and the need to design and build to operate / operate for design and build, and defines,maintains and implements best practice technology standards. Works with the team and provides highly advanced technical expertise to create vision and maximize value from current applications / platforms and emerging technologies, showing technical thoughtleadership and driving continuous improvement efforts. Designs, develops, tests, operates and maintains infrastructure platforms, depending on specialism.Monitors and reports on potential risks/opportunities of emerging technologies. EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIESData Platform Development & Operations : Minimum 5-6 years experience in developing and operating AWS infrastructure and/or Big Data platforms including but not limited to: data hubs, ETL and data ingestion, storage and repository maintenance, data publishingand consumption. Extensive Experience in using AWS cloud data services e.g. AWS Lake Formation/Redshift/Dynamo DB/Step functionsProgramming / Software Development : Development experience in one or more object-oriented programming languages (e.g. Python, Powershell,ADO). Experience in coding, testing, and documentation of complex programs and scripts from agreed specifications. Release and Deployment : Experience in building CICD pipelines utilizing technologies and frameworks (e.g. Python, Powershell, ADO). Experiencein carrying out the builds and tests in coordination with testers and component specialists maintaining and administering the tools and methodsmanual or automatic - and ensuring, where possible, information exchange with configuration management. Experiencewith Azure DevOps and CI/CD Systems Design : Deep and hands-on experience designing, planning, implementing, maintaining and documenting reliable and scalable data infrastructure and data products in complex environments. DESIRABLE CRITERIA Experience designingand implementing large-scale distributed systems Experience in designing data transformation using PySpark and AWS glueExposure to AWS services that offer saleable solutions - platforms, storage, databases, etc. Good knowledge and hands-on experience in technologiesacross all data lifecycle stages Good knowledge and understanding of modern development methodologies (Agile using Scrum and/or Kanban).
