Job Description

Direct Payments Advisor | Sandwell/ Tipton, West Midlands | Full Time | £22,525 - £24,986 FTE (37 hours) depending on skills and experienceOur client is a user-led registered charity and social enterprise working to make life better for disabled, elderly and vulnerable people and their carers.The team are proud to be a user-led organisation with an active membership of nearly 3,500 individuals who are heard, engaged, and represented in the organisations vision, values, and principles and in the way they co-design and deliver services to meettheir needs.You will support the continuous development and co-ordination of the Direct Payments Support Service the company provide, as well as provide advice and guidance to the Service Users and the Personal Assistants on the rules and legislation that apply to theDirect Payments scheme.Are you the right person for the jobThe following criteria are essential for the role

  • Minimum of 1-year experience in a similar role
  • Evidence of education and qualifications to GCSE standard or equivalent
  • Experience working in a disability setting
  • Experience in Direct Payments or/and health & social care advisory role, or/and Human resources role
  • Proficient in using IT and software packages to support record keeping, report writing e.g. MS packages, CRM, online outcome tools etc
  • Ability to understand and deliver information, advice and guidance to Direct Payments Service Users
  • A genuine interest in the development and equality issues of disabled people
  • Ability to travel to Birmingham, Walsall and Sandwell and further afield to conduct home visits and attend meetings
What will your key tasks as a Direct Payments Advisor be
  • To give advice by telephone, email or in person to service users with regard to their direct Payment and best practice employment law including the recruitment, payment, discipline and dismissal of their paid PAs/Carers
  • To undertake all necessary training in order to keep abreast of the changes to employment and wage payment legislation
  • To provide guidance to the service user when problems arise with their Direct Payments Account or scheme rules
  • To visit disabled people in their homes to inform them about Individual Budgets and the Direct Payment Service offered by the company
  • To work in line with all relevant legislation regarding Adult Protection and Childrens safeguarding policies and procedures
  • To liaise with other staff to seek specialist assistance for service users whether this be via HR or Employment and Development etc
  • To assist service users with Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Checks
  • To give advice on auto enrolment/pensions and process
  • To maintain a database showing the details of how the company is meeting and achieving the required levels of proficiency in advice giving, recruitment and employment law issues etc.
  • To collaborate in the successful delivery of Direct Payments Service Level Agreements and contracts
  • Co-ordinate training and development opportunities for service users
  • To be flexible and also work on any activities that have been developed within the provision of Personal Budgets such as Payroll, Managed Accounts Support Planning etc and including any specific service provision for diverse client groups (e.g. people withmental health issues and learning disabilities)
  • To provide cover to the service when advised or felt necessary and to operate within a team environment, demonstrating support and flexibility to your team members
  • To work with team members and management to share and promote good practices and to work co-operatively to ensure consistency in working practices wherever possible and to champion changes.
  • To attend conferences, events and meetings to promote the companys Direct Payment service.
