Job Description

Bioinformatician - crop science company East England. Python, R programming, statistics & NGS experience Your new companyMy client is an innovative and very well funded company, based in the East of England, looking to add several talented bioinformaticians to their team to focus on cutting edge genetic experiments to provide food security and help solve the global food crisis. The company leadership includes a number of industry veterans and they have plans to be at the forefront of the market. They have also tripled in size over the last 2 years, driven by successful commercial partnerships.Your new roleYoull be part of the team that leading the development of their new gene editing platforms and pipelines, helping to bring new ideas to their products whilst working in a multi-disciplinary and diverse team.Responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and/or optimising bioinformatics pipelines and tools for analysing large scale NGS datasets
  • Carrying out hands-on analysis and interpretation of genetic / NGS data
  • Leading aspects of, or potentially entire, bioinformatics projects
  • Collaborating with colleagues in multiple locations, as well as liaising with senior stakeholders
  • Programming / scripting in Python, R or Perl
  • Designing experiments in conjunction with biology researchers
  • Helping develop and optimise bioinformatics methods
    • This is a fast-paced environment, with multiple challenges and will require you to prioritise workloads on a regular basis.What youll need to succeedYou should have:
  • Scripting/programming skills, ideally with Python, but other languages such as R, Perl or Bash are also acceptable;
  • Experience with statistical software, eg R or Matlab;
  • Track record of developing pipelines
  • Good hands-on experience of working with & analysing NGS data;
  • Knowledge/experience of mining public sequence repositories/databases;
  • At least an MSc in bioinformatics or similar discipline (or equivalent experience), although higher level degrees eg PhD are preferred;
  • Good communication skills, ideally gained from working with clients or within multi-disciplinary teams.
