Job Description

A Thermal Engineer is sought by a Tyneside based Specialist Engineering companyWorking within a multi-discipline engineering team you will be working on a range of specialist products and will be tasked with the following activities: -

  • Thermal analysis and design of electrical and electro-mechanical equipment
  • Develop, enhance and utilise thermal design tools, analytical and software
  • Perform analytical and numerical analysis to ascertain temperature profile, cooling methodology and design specification - using FEA and CFD as primary validation tools
  • Prepare documentation and plans relating to cooling design methodology, test & qualification, manufacture (Work Instructions) and quality control
  • Verify and validate performance specifications, advising and assisting on test method setup and procedures
  • Participate in and identify measures that improve performance, reliability, cost, assembly and design for manufacture
  • Support fault analysis, root cause and corrective action activities including Design failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA)
    • The ideal candidate will have a range of the following education and skillsBachelors level degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or alternative related discipline with thermo-dynamic content3 years relevant and practical industrial experience applying thermal analysis and design principles to electrical productsAdvance user of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for thermal analysisUser of CAD for file manipulation and/or extractionSoftware Proficiency is some of the following is desirable:
  • ANSYS FEA
  • CFD (ANSYS CFX or equivalent)
  • Creo / Pro Engineer CAD
  • Ansys-Icepak
