Job Description

A Shift Leader with Lean Manufacturing experience is needed by a company in the Gateshead areaThe role will involve coordinating and managing the activities of a team of operators. Main duties will include: -

  • Allocate labour assignments for current and future shifts to ensure product is built and shipped
  • Lead Lean and Kaizen initiatives within your team
  • Ensure TPM, 5S and safety checks are carried out and OEE is recorded daily at the end of every shift.
  • Liaise with the planners daily to update them on staffing, spare capacity, product pull ins and delays
  • Maintain safety standards.
  • Develop and manage a training programme for team members to ensure customer requirements are met
  • People management including dealing with discipline and grievance issues as well as absence management through return to work meetings, etc.
  • Support the completion of performance reviews.
  • Standardise processes and systems across your value stream in line with the Lean system
  • Responsible for the leadership, development and motivation of operators to achieve business KPIs Handover notes and data to be passed to the next shift.
  • Responsible for stock accuracy
  • Completing JDE stock movements on the shop floor.
The shift pattern is a 3 shift pattern - early - 6am to 2pm, late - 2pm - 10pm and nights 10pm - 6amThere is also a Quarterly bonus based on company targets, pension scheme, healthcare and a variety of discounts as well as defined career and technical development pathwaysKEY SKILLSThe successful Shift Leader will have experience as a Production Team Leader or Production Supervisor within a Lean Manufacturing environment. You will need experience of managing shift-based teams and have strong planning and organisation skills Previousexperience of using problem solving tools ie A3s, 5 Whys, PDCA, etc and a clear knowledge of Lean tools and techniques to support the delivery of world class performance ie 5S, Visual management, SOPs, SW, TPM, SMED, value stream mapping, is needed. Ideallyyou will be qualified to HNC level or the equivalent in an engineering or manufacturing discipline.Good Supervisory skills with the ability to manage, motivate, develop and empower a team and the ability to analyse data, provide recommendations for improvement and a good understanding of financial metrics are also needed.APPLY NOWThis is an excellent role as a Production Shift Leader with a forward thinking manufacturing business.
