Job Description

Reed Talent Solutions are currently working with a Taunton based UK Central Government agency to recruit a Principal Software Developer on an initial 6-month contract. The Government department is a world-leading centre for hydrography,specialising in marine geospatial data that supports defence and global shipping.Role Information

  • Fully flexible remote working with occasional travel to Taunton
  • Daily Rate: £726 per day INSIDE IR35
  • 6 month contract with potential to extend
Role Overview The agency has invested in building an internal Data Platform capability to provide centralized discovery and cataloging of GOV department data assets. As we onboard more interal data producers to the platform we are looking to add additional capabilitiesand slowly migrate the technologies used to C# / .NET from the original Java technology stack.Working alongside the existing development team you will:
  • Create new C#/.NET services for the Data Platform
  • Lifecycle existing Java/Kotlin services to C#/Net as required
  • Coach existing team members in the use of C#/.Net through pair programming, peer review and team talks
  • Support the Data Platform during office hours to help achieve its service level objectives
  • Assist the Lead Developer, Solution Architect, and Product Owner to design service improvements and the addition of new features
Essential Criteria
  • Experience (3+ years) of working in a senior software development role at the enterprise-level with a proven track record of successful project delivery
  • Strong experience of C# and .NET
  • Good understanding of OO concepts and SOLID design principles
  • Experience of containerisation using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience of developing using public cloud, ideally Microsoft Azure and Terraform
  • Knowledge of SQL and database design
  • Being proficient in one or more scripting languages is a nice to have (e.g. powershell)
