We are currently seeking a professional and methodical Finance Officer to join an established and well-known school in Taunton, Somerset. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your talents while making a positive impact on the lives of students andstaff. This role is being offered on a temporary to permanent basis, starting immediately. You will be responsible for supporting the Business Manager to manage the day-to-day finance by taking the lead role in the administration of the schools finances toensure compliance with financial regulations, by ensuring all aspects of Finance tasks are completed in accordance with the relevant checklists.Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the finance assistant and supporting, where necessary.
  • Ensure all financial transactions comply with the finance policy and the Academies Financial Handbook.
  • Responsible for completing the monthly reconciliation process and for reconciling the Academy control accounts to the appropriate expenditure accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Oversee the processing and completion of visa statement.
  • Responsible for completing and overseeing the monthly financial checklist.
  • Responsible for preparing the monthly VAT claim for the Academy.
  • Responsible for monitoring all budgets and preparing monthly financial reports setting out clear explanations on any important budgeting considerations and contribute to the deployment of the budget.
  • Responsible for the management of the debtor report, ensuring all monies due to the Academy are received in a timely fashion.
  • Assists the School Business Manager with the preparation of the annual audited accounts and maintaining the year end schedules.
  • Create or authorise supplier BACS payment runs in conjunction with the School Business Manager.
  • Responsible for maintaining the school inventory annually.
  • Supervise the presentation of school monies and monitor the procedure for the collection of money and accountability (e.g. for foreign trips, sponsored events, exam fees etc), to ensure it is applied correctly, making suggestions on improvements and makesuitable arrangements for banking. Initiate appropriate debt recovery procedure and produce clear financial statements.
  • Identify and resolve supplier queries/investigations/duplicate payments.
  • Complete and submit financial returns on behalf of the academy and working with outside agencies.
  • Oversee the input and authorisation of all school orders, invoices, debtor invoices and payment batches.
Requirements: To excel in this role, the successful candidate should have:
  • Experience within Finance, preferably within an educational setting
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with stakeholders at all levels
  • Proficient computer skills, including familiarity with relevant software applications
  • A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in all aspects of the role
