Job Description

Ref: 487Role: PHP Development ManagerSalary: £50,000-£55,000Location: TadcasterThe role:The PHP Development Manager will manage a small team of in-house Developers, overseeing their career development and directing their day-to-day workload. The role involves hands-on development, building and implementing systems/systems changes in a varietyof languages including PHP. As an experienced developer, it is expected that the successful applicant will provide clear management, guidance and insight to the team, ensuring demonstrable advancement in their capabilities. Required to attend management andproject meetings, where they will be required to provide technical guidance, development estimates and budgetary awareness.

  • Managing the IT Development team and set the coding standards.
  • Set challenging, but achievable goals and deadlines for each member of the team and provide them with the necessary guidance and coaching to ensure targets are achieved.
  • Work closely with the Transformation team to manage and deliver against the strategically agreed change pipeline.
  • Accountable for end-to-end delivery of projects, design and quality of technical solutions.
  • Provide directional input for the wider project team during all development and design stages of a project.
  • Assist in the setting of project scope and serve as technical expert throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide accurate and timely updates to required stakeholders.
  • Develop code accurately and at pace.
  • Lead the move from waterfall to more iterative/Agile delivery methodology.
  • Perform project reviews on a consistent basis to ensure project delivery is on time, to the required standard and on budget.
  • Assist in the alignment of purchased software and solutions with current and future business requirements, goals and technical strategy.
  • Aware of IT budgets, forecasts and other key business drivers.
  • Evaluate risk, develop and test recovery and backup processes.
  • Assess and purchase new and replacement software.
  • Assure that IT activities are within the limits of applicable laws, codes and regulations.
  • Test, troubleshoot and adjust information systems to operate effectively.
  • Design and implement software security at all stages of the development lifecycle.
Direct Reports: 2x PHP Full Stack Developers and 1x Java Application DeveloperThe successful candidate:Must have:
  • Web application debugging and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to manage, coach, train, supervise and motivate members of the team for high performance.
  • Experience in coordinating installations, upgrades, and maintenance activities.
  • Ability to identify software/solution needs
  • Knowledge of architecture processes and Agile delivery methodologies
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Skills to understand and oversee code development
  • Problem solving capabilities
Experience using:-
  • MySQL & SQL Server databases & Redis
  • JavaScript
  • PHP
  • API’s
  • HTML and CSS
Preferable: Experience of:-
  • Drupal
  • MS Power BI
  • DAX
  • SSRS
  • Elasticsearch
  • Degree level qualification preferred.
  • Relevant Microsoft accreditation would be advantageous
