Role: Infrastructure EngineerWintelGrade: SEOSalary: £38,654 - £42,991Location: Swansea (Hybrid working) - DVLA supports flexible working, and as an IT department we are currently working from home. We are working towards introducing a hybrid model, under which working arrangements will be driven by the requirementsof your role in agreement with your line manager. We have 6 staff network groups run by staff to support their colleagues: Freedom (LGBT), Ability (Disabilities),Gender Equality, Unity (Ethnicity), Mental Health Network and Carers Support Network.ABOUT THE JOBJob descriptionAcross our Information Technology Services (ITS) Directorate we design, develop, implement and support a multitude of services, managed both on and off premise, that reach every household in the UK and our infrastructure teams help deliver complex digital solutionsto millions of users.As an Agency we operate both legacy applications on older systems, as well as utilising modern technologies like cloud and serverless solutions, but whilst we migrate onto new technologies it is important that we maintain the stability and security of our existingsystems.ResponsibilitiesInclude but not limited to:

  • Take ownership for complex infrastructure issues, engaged and co-ordinated across multiple infrastructure areas until resolution achieved
  • Build, support, administer and maintain Microsoft Windows Server infrastructure up to and including Windows 2019
  • Leads technical implementation of small and medium infrastructure change, adhering to due process and providing appropriate documentation
  • Contributes into large infrastructure change and technical designs, including identifying risks, benefits, service improvements and enhancements
  • Works within a technical framework in order to meet customer requirements
ABOUT YOUYou will already be an experienced infrastructure specialist with comprehensive knowledge of Windows Server infrastructure, VMware ESXi (6.n.n/7.n.n) and Exchange 2013. You will be comfortable reacting to issues as they arise and problem solving to find thebest solutions. Additionally, you will be proficient in planning and prioritising your workload as we migrate or decommission older technologies and operating systems.During a standard working week you will be expected to work on a rota basis to ensure that the team can provide cover between 07:00-17:00 Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays). There is also an opportunity to be available on a rota basis to cover/undertakeout of hours activities and provide on call cover to support delivery of the service (17:0007:00 Monday to Friday, 24/7 on weekends and on public holidays) for which an extra allowance of £4,000 will be paid.Specific Technical Skills & Experience
