Youth & Inclusion WorkerJob Type: Full Time, PermanentLocation: Sutton, SurreySalary: £30,082The Forward Trust, are a UK leading provider of drug and alcohol treatment services to offenders. We deliver treatment and recovery support - in prisons and in the community - which helps people move away from addiction and crime. These services providea variety of support, including advice, counselling, group work and intensive treatment. At The Forward Trust we believe that all people who are addicted to or misusing substances should have access to support which is effective in protecting their health,and motivating them to take steps towards their own recovery. Over 20 years of pursuing this mission, we have been successful in moving thousands of drug dependent offenders away from a lifestyle revolving around crime, and drug or alcohol dependence.What will you be doingYou will be based on site working within a team that have a broad skills mix to deliver combined psychosocial and clinical interventions providing recovery-orientated Health and Wellbeing Services to service users aged 18 and over between: HMP Downview,a women’s closed category prison located in Sutton and HMP/YOI Bronzefield a dynamic and forward-thinking prison which accommodates a diverse and complex population of women remanded & sentenced.Please note travel will be required between sites (reasonable travel expenses paid).Additionally, there will be a focus for this role to provide support to HMP Downsview’s transgender population, ensuring that the service is inclusive. They will ensure that interventions are tailored to meet the needs of this population, providing supportand guidance to staff on how to engage them. They will facilitate regular service user forums to ascertain ways in which we can improve service provision for transgender people.ResponsibilitiesThis will involve working directly with those who are detained in the prison who may present low-level mental health needs and/or substance misuse issues. The service operates 7 days a week therefore weekend working will be a requirement on a rota basis.

  • Pro-actively engaging 18-25-year olds into treatment by providing wing outreach targeting those who need support.
  • Deliver bespoke interventions designed for young adults e.g., Change up programme - Change Up is an early intervention programme of short one to one and group sessions, designed especially for young adults aged 18-25yrs to help them make their own choicesabout drugs and alcohol, in a more informed way. The programme combines one to one and group sessions, covering a range of topics including drug and alcohol use and mental health to educate and inform participants around the consequences of their choices.
  • Facilitate regular young adults Service User engagement forums, which will give young adults a voice, empower them to make suggestions on how we can improve our service.
  • Lead in planning and delivering Equality, Diversity & Inclusion activities and promotions for staff and service users
  • Provide one to one support and manage caseload of young adults and those identifying as part of the LQBTQ+ community.
What are we looking for
  • Experience of working within mental health or substance misuse service.
  • Experience of working with and/or delivering interventions to young people (18 - 30) or other diverse service user groups
  • Strong IT skills
  • Understanding of key issues and agendas concerning equality, diversity and inclusion within health and justice setting
  • Experience of carrying out comprehensive assessments, developing and implementing SMART care plans.
  • Experience of delivering structured interventions both 1:1 and in group settings.
  • Ability to apply motivation interviewing techniques or CBT based skills
