Job Description

Summary£38,500 up to £45,100* per annum - This isn’t just a day job. This is making the most of every day.An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Officer to support the CSR-Buying team. This team are responsible for all sustainability topics connected to the supply chain and products that we buy and sell. Within this role, there will be an opportunityto develop into becoming a subject matter expert in nature and biodiversity. There will also be opportunity, in time, to take ownership of projects that help support the wider team and business aims, being responsible for external communications and representingthe Lidl brand with key organisations and stakeholders such as WWF and LEAF.We have moved to a hybrid working model with a recommended 2 days in the office per week for appropriate Head Office and Regional roles, empowering our teams to choose how and where they work best. We feel it is important that, where possible, we offer our colleagues as much flexibility as possible and trust our teams to determine the rightenvironments that work most effectively for them.What youll do

  • Taking ownership of biodiversity and nature topics, building on the success and delivery of these areas within the business
  • Support in developing new biodiversity and nature policies, using expertise to further build upon existing biodiversity and nature strategy. Including Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), Water, pesticides, peat reduction and re-gen agriculture
  • Working with the Lidl food supply chain, understanding the complexities of the FMCG industry and working with internal and external stakeholders to deliver business goals
  • Working directly with suppliers and reviewing their performance, such as: CSR plans, risk assessing, target setting and implementing pilot projects
  • Building strong relationships with Lidl’s internal departments such as Buying, CSR, Communications, Property and Marketing
  • Supporting our Buyers particularly across British fresh produce, MFP and dairy categories
  • Developing into a subject matter expert for the wider business, keeping track of upcoming policy and legislation changes
  • Developing and ensuring the ongoing success of given topics within CSR plans and their implementation within the team
  • Supporting the team with the delivery of additional topics, such as sustainable agriculture, and data analysis and wider team coordination
What youll need
  • Relevant experience within CSR or relevant sustainability areas
  • Experience within relevant biodiversity, nature, and water topics
  • Experience within the agricultural industry is desired, especially fresh produce (but not essential)
  • Relevant sustainability or ecology qualifications (such as IEMA) desired but not required
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively to a range of different stakeholders
  • Highly self-motivated, able to work independently within a high-pressured environment
  • Personal autonomy – ability to drive their own agenda and raise the profile of given topic areas in the business
  • Self-learning: the ability to upskill and learn on the job, with the aim to develop into a subject matter expert within a given topic
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • A naturally analytical mind-set
  • A strong team player
