Business Improvement Senior EngineerLocation: Bristol & Bath AreaSalary: £43,445 - £48,770 depending on experience + Pension & BenefitsSF31123About the roleThe role will place you in a team within the Submarine Support Engineering Directorate, a centre of excellence for our professional engineering capability. Submarine Support Engineering provides technical outputs and solutions to enable submarine availability and, fit for purpose nuclear licenced infrastructure; supporting naval programmes while proactively improving our capabilities. The primary purpose of the role is to support business improvement initiatives. Activity will include support to extant long term work streams and ownership of discrete packages of work. Tasks sit across the project life cycle and various boundaries of Submarine Support Engineering. Due to the breadth of focus this role provides the opportunity to interact with a wide range of stakeholders up and across the organisation. As projects mature through the life cycle, they are often spun out to the business unit of greatest benefit. Spinning work out provides you the opportunity to move with the task, to continue developing their career in Babcock, or initiating new work in business improvement.Babcock Naval Nuclear plays a key role in the support of Royal Navy nuclear submarines throughout their life-cycle and in ensuring that submarines are ready to conduct operations at sea. Babcock are charged with ensuring that the submarines, and the support arrangements that we and others provide, enable safe delivery of the UKs Continuous at Sea Deterrent patrols at an acceptable cost to the nation.Babcock provide support to our customer across the life cycle of the submarine flotilla and have a robust order book into the future. Naval Nuclear continues to operate strongly through COVID-19 and to date zero staff have been furloughed.The three main areas of influence are;• In service; looking at Trafalgar, Astute and Vanguard Class submarines providing engineering support and thought whilst at sea and alongside to enable an optimised maintenance package and through life cost.• Build; looking at Dreadnought Class submarines providing engineering support and thought through the design and down selection process to provide support to our customer to define the preferred support solution.• Concept; engaged with our customer looking at options associated with the replacement of Astute Class submarines.What do I need to do the roleYou will need to be personable, professional and driven with the ability to engage in a range of projects. Working with a high level of professional knowledge, the role is part of a multi-disciplinary team that will apply your skills across our support programme.You must have membership of an accredited body such as IMechE, IMarEST, IET or APM and ideally either be chartered or working towards chartered status, qualifications of HND level or above in STEM disciplines such as Mechanical, Electrical, System, Data or Maths (experience in lieu of formal education would be considered) and experience in leading business improvement activity or the initiation of works through a recognised project life cycle.Would also like you to have experience in all or some of the following:• Carrying out technical investigations and analysis to provide data for problem assessment or resolution and for design of improvements.• Production, review and approval of analyses, drawings, models, design basis documentation and technical reports as assigned.• Evaluating technical issues in order to develop proposals for investigations and/or solutions.• Acting as Engineering Lead and make engineering decisions within delegated authority.• Providing help and direction to team members with reference to your experience.If you have experience supporting complex assets through life, submarine or warship system knowledge or Lean Six Sigma belts, this would be beneficial.What else do I need to know• The successful candidate will need to satisfy security requirements. You must be a sole UK national and hold or be capable of achieving Security Check (SC) clearance.• The post will be based in an environment regulated by Trade Control legislation and involve working with controlled goods, technology and/or services.
