An opportunity exists for a Senior Anatomical Pathology Technologist to join the Mortuary department at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust. The department, which operates over 2 sites, provides services for the Trust and the Coroners for Hartlepool and Teesside. In addition the post holder will be expected to work, under an honorary contract, at South Tees Hospital NHSFT.Our service, which is HTA licensed, provides a comprehensive range of services that includes Coronal and Forensic post-mortems. We pride ourselves on delivering a high quality service which ensures the dignity, respect and care for the deceased and bereaved.We are looking for a qualified and experienced APT. Although the L4 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology is an essential requirement for this post the Trust recognises APT qualifications are in transition. As such, we will consider applicants with alternate qualifications or evidenced experience; please make this clear in your application.You will be able to demonstrate experience of specialist post-mortem techniques, be IT literate and have an understanding of HTA and UKAS standards.The nature of the job is such that it demands high standards of integrity. You must be able to work as part of a team or alone. You will be required to assist in ensuring on-going HTA and UKAS compliance and carry out audits. Physical aspects require preparation of patients for autopsy, moving patients and family viewings. It is essential that you have good interpersonal skills with the ability to show empathy and deal sensitively with bereaved families.Core working days are Monday to Friday. You will be required to work flexibly around the needs of the service and participate in the out of hours service for both NHS organisations.Holding a full UK driving licence and willingness to drive the mortuary car, is desirable, although not essentialThe department has full UKAS accreditation and is licensed by HTA.
