Job Description

JA1268 - EstimatorLocation Stockton-on-TeesType – PermanentHours – 37.5/weekSalary – Up to £48K DOEOverview:We are currently recruiting for an Estimator to provide estimating support activities within the Electrical / Instrumentation Industrial Construction sector. The successful candidate will assistance in all elements of the tendering process and as directed bythe E & I Bid Manager.Job Purpose:

  • The Estimator will be responsible for providing detailed estimates based upon conceptual documents as well as schematics and construction documents. The role must interface with other estimating disciplines as well as the other members of the Project Team,Subcontractors and Owner Representatives.
  • The Estimator will be responsible for take-offs, pricing and producing the final estimate to be incorporated into the overall cost plan.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Calculating the cost of materials, transport, labour, and equipment hire
  • Obtaining quotes for all predicted requirements from sub-contractors and suppliers
  • Collating detailed price lists of everything needed on each project.
  • Clarifying the clients needs and expectations
  • Reading scopes of Work and drawing and taking measurements
  • Making use of relevant computer software such as Excel, Word and Autodesk DWG TrueView, Estimation
  • Assessing and adhering to all risk assessments and health and safety requirements
  • Keeping up to date with inflation, exchange rates and projected timescale costs
  • Making visits to proposed construction sites.
  • Consulting with others including Bid Manager, Contracts Managers, Project Managers, QS’s,’ planners and design teams.
  • Presenting bids to clients and answering their questions
  • Completing work quality submissions
  • Preparing and submitting quotations for work.
  • Ability to communicate with the supply chain to obtain information to aid in the estimating process. Determine product requirements for individual contracts and source quality materials that meet necessary standards whilst achieving the best possible price.
  • Offer value engineering ideas to maintain profitability of projects.
  • Create estimates using electronic estimating software to produce accurate and profitable tenders to meet the requirements given by the client.
  • Maintain and record tender details in the database and ensure accurate record keeping.
  • Create detailed contract files for successful tenders including project costs, specifications, project risk assessments, payment terms etc.
  • Consult with clients regarding contract requirements and scrutinise paperwork to ensure any amendments are agreed and signed off.
  • Consult with Directors and other key business individuals to discuss projects, risks, agree rates, installations, and profit margins. Liaise with Contracts Manager to provide an accurate and effective handover agenda and ensure continued communication wherenecessary.

Skills & Experience:Essential
  • GCSEs or equivalent at grades 9-4 (A*-C) in Science, IT, Technology, English and Maths would be beneficial.
  • Highly proficient in numeracy
  • Good presentation skills both written and verbal.
  • Good at negotiating
  • Able to undertake project management.
  • Detail orientated.
  • Able to work under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Commercially aware of the construction industry

Desirable
  • Although it is not necessary for you to have any formal educational qualifications to enter this career path, it would be beneficial for this role to be a qualified electrical craftsperson / technician or have had relevant experience in the Electrical /Instrumentation Industrial Construction sector.
