The successful candidate will have the opportunity to immediately impacton the performance of the business and will be given exposure to critical orders from sizeable, global customers, becoming an integral member of the Hughes team.As Electrical Design Engineer, you will:

• Interpret/develop clients standards & technical specifications to offer the best solutions to the customer.
• Ensure design output complies with specifications.
• Complete data sheets for electrical/ instrumentation devices/equipment.
• Review and approve sub-vendor quotations and evaluating against project requirements.
• Transfer electrical designs to 2D CAD drawings.
• Provide support to the sales team when quoting orders.
• Support the documentation team when resolving technical queries that arise for the approval process with the end user.
• Work closely with production team and the purchasing department, providing proactive support during the procurement and manufacturing stages of an order.
• Work alongside the Purchasing and quality team for suppler selection and approval.
• Drive MUV initiatives around cost down exercise for electrical equipment.
• Deliver innovative solutions to ensure products ranges remain at the forefront of the market.

The Ideal Electrical Design EngineerWe are looking for a data-driven individual who is results oriented. You should be a practical risk-taker who acknowledges failure and doesnt repeat mistakes. Clear and direct interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to work cross-functionallyto solve business problems.Education

• Degree qualified in a relevant discipline i.e. BEng Electrical Engineering.
• An industrial electrical design qualification or similar.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years experience in an Electrical Engineering Role.
• At least 5 years experience in Engineering/Manufacturing.
• Experience in a high variation, low volume manufacturing environment.

Technical Skills to Include:

• Knowledge of 2D AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (including word, excel, outlook).
• Knowledge of different LV Voltage Levels / Power Supplies (3-Phase and Single Phase).
• Able to read and understand electrical schematic diagrams and electrical circuits control philosophies.
• Able to recognise major devices and their functions in the schematic diagrams including fuses/circuit breakers, contactors, switches etc
• Able to select proper electrical and instrumentation cables and cable glands, familiarity with different types of cables and cable glands as well as different manufacturers.
• Familiarity with different types of change-over contacts (SPDT, DPDT) in instrument devices like position switches.
• Familiarity with control systems and PLC devices.
• Familiarity with Earthing System.
• Familiarity with Electrical Trace Tape Heating System & immersion heating systems.
• Familiarity with Field Instruments such as Switches, Temperature Sensors, Transmitters, etc.
• Knowledge of industrial standards such as BS 7671, ATEX and IEC-60079-14 are essential.

• Knowledge of ATEX Directives and ATEX Marking to select proper Ex. Certified Electrical/Instrument Devices/Equipment for hazardous area applications.
• Able to differentiate between ATEX, IECEX and North Americas Explosive Atmosphere Markings.
• Worldwide marking and approvals of electrical equipment.
• Awareness of SAS technology.
• Experience in SAGE 200 ERP or similar.
• Awareness of ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001.
