MICROBIOLOGY SENIOR BMS(MICROBIOLOGY)£37,570 - £43,772 per annum Pro-rata (AfC Band 7)22.5 hours per week (Monday to Wednesday) - PermanentAn opportunity has arisen for a knowledgeable and innovative Biomedical Scientist to join our highly motivated and professional team. The post holder will act as a senior lead in providing the Microbiology diagnostic and therapeutic services at Stepping Hill hospital. Prized professional skills and experience in Antimicrobial Susceptibility testing, Andrology and IT are highly desireableAs the successful candidate you will be state registered with the Health Care Professions Council; have competed the IBMS specialist portfolio in Microbiology or equivalent, and possess an appropriate MSc. Coupled with post registration experience working in a NHS Microbiology department.As a Senior BMS you will be responsible for the daily deployment and supervision of staff and the operations of a departmental section; whilst maintaining an overview and management responsibilities for the service as a whole. You will be a key contact for laboratory and clinical staff providing advice on technical issues, training, ISO accreditation and clinical interpretation. Working closely with the Technical Head of department and the team you will develop the service to best meet the requirements of our users, ISO 15189 standards, and uphold the IBMS training status. This department offers training and development opportunities for the right candidates to further develop their skills and ambition.The department is UKAS accredited for all tests within current scope and an IBMS accredited training laboratory.The department processes in excess of 160,000 test per year including molecular testing for Influenza/RSV, SARS-CoV-2, Clostridium difficile, Norovirus and Carbapenemases. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing is performed using EUCAST disk diffusion and the Vitek 2 analyser and we currently are in the process of implementing new analysers including Sysmex UF-5000, BD Bactec FX400 and Bruker MALDI-TOF.The department requires staff to work shifts and on call that ensure that the continual service needs of the department can be met. To achieve this you will be required to work within a rotational shift pattern which will include evening and weekend shifts and on call .
