Job Description

This role is based at our Anita Dorfman Residential Care & Nursing Home in Stanmore and is 21 hours per week. The actual salary for 21 hours is £13,490 per annum or £12.32 per hour.The purpose of this role is to support and promote a range of activities to integrate users into the social life of the centre. This will include both centre and outing based activities. You will provide support to help clients lead as independent a lifeas possible and take a person-centred approach in the care of the residents. The role will support both elderly residents with dementia, as well as younger adults with physical disabilities. You will provide stimulating recreational, educational and therapeuticactivities which are in keeping with Jewish Cares valuesWhat youll be doing:

  • In consultation with residents, families, colleagues, and management, to develop and implement a programme of stimulating activities, including outings, that will meet the social, physical, and emotional needs of residents and enable them to lead as fulla life as possible, paying attention to the needs of older adults with dementia, younger adults with physical disabilities or mental health challenges.
  • Ensuring that staff and appropriate resources are available to support the activity programme including transport and staffing for outings to agreed standards of the Registered Manager.
  • Maintaining agreed standards of social care to meet the needs of each resident using the key worker scheme to provide a person centred planned programme of care for each resident in order to promote meaningful lives
  • Monitoring budget for planned activities and ensure that staff and resources are available and meet budgetary constraints.
  • Manage volunteers, who assist with activities and outings, ensuring a supportive and appropriate framework is managed and maintained.
  • Ensure that all activities and transporting of residents is carried out as safely as possible, by carrying out risk assessments in line with health and safety and the well-being of residents
  • Report to the Registered Manager details of residents who become unwell on journeys, or who show signs of general distress or obvious physical or mental discomfort.
What youll need:
  • Relevant qualification for the post, e.g. general or specific course in recreational activity or equivalent.
  • QCF Level 2, promoting independence or a willingness to undertake QCF.
  • First Aid at Work Certificate or willingness to undertake first aid training.
  • Medication or willingness to undertake certificate to administer medication.
  • Experience of working with older people with dementia, adults with physical disabilities and younger adults with mental health challenges.
  • Experience of developing and implementing social activities within a care setting.
  • Experience of working with others, managing volunteers or staff that assist with activities.
  • Ability to organise and plan a person centred diverse social activity programme both in centre and outings.
  • A good knowledge of technical equipment set up, for example, projectors, computers, etc. with a knowledge in IT and applicable to some activities.
  • A knowledge of issues affecting the older adults with dementia, younger adults with physical disabilities and mental health challenges.
