Job Description

Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital - NHS Trust Medical Secretary Band 4 37.5 hours per weekThe Catterall Unit (Paediatrics) are looking for a Medical Secretary to work within their department to help cover the consultants and their teams and work alongside other secretarial / administrative staff. The post offers an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and conscientious Medical Secretary to be a part of a busy team. This post will be for a 12 month fixed term contract.Duties for this post will include:

  • Transcription of clinics
  • Proofreading and editing of documents
  • Dealing with medical correspondence
  • Dealing with queries from patients, public, NHS staff and colleagues
  • Dealing with Consultants administration
  • Other administrative duties.
  • Providing cross cover for other secretarial/administrative staff during absences
  • The successful candidates must have:
  • a minimum of 1-3 years secretarial experience of working as a Medical Secretary in a hospital setting
  • excellent communication and organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Has exceptional typing abilities with a minimum of 60 wpm
  • Have experience of audio typing within a hospital setting
  • Can prioritise work within NHS secondary care settings
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Good telephone manner with the ability to take clear messages
  • Use own initiative
  • Have a flexible and adaptable approach to their workload
  • Be able to deal with general office duties.
  • be able to work well in a team and take instructions from several sources
  • Provide a quality service with a conscientious approach. Please include examples.
