Job Description

The Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre provides Consultant led rehabilitation to injured serving military personnel in a purpose-built facility that opened in 2018 and we are looking for 2 Occupational Therapists with experience of rehabilitating people to come and join our interdisciplinary team on a Fixed Term basis.We offer mainly in-patient rehabilitation with the aim of returning people to as full a life as possible, whether this involves a return to their military role or the transition to civilian life. You will have your own caseload and will provide assessments and treatment to help your patients achieve their individual rehab goals in all aspects of their life.Occupational Therapy is very valued within the interdisciplinary team and you will work closely with a range of healthcare professionals to provide specialist support to our patients.If you are interested in this post, please contact us for further information. Please note that the patient caseload requires consistency so the position is being advertised as full time (37 hours) only.Duties of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Providing specialist assessment and treatment of complex patients often with significant complex psychosocial needs, requiring a biopsychosocial approach to rehabilitation delivery.
  • Providing health education to patients in one to one and group sessions via presentations and workshops.
  • Working autonomously, without direct supervision and be accountable for own professional actions, guided by professional regulations, national policies, standards, and guidelines.
  • Responsibility for assessment and provision of adaptive equipment or aids to support patients in independent living. Including environmental assessment such as home or workplace visits.
  • Participating in developing and implementing policies and procedures across the Occupational Therapy Service within clinical area to ensure quality of service provision and evidence-based practice. This includes implementation of relevant National standards and guidelines.
  • Participating in research, clinical evaluation, and audit, some of which is complex and multi-faceted, for the Occupational Therapy service within the clinical area.
  • Providing specialist clinical advice and teaching on MSK rehabilitation and long-term health conditions.
  • Required Qualifications and Memberships:The successful candidate will be required to provide evidence of the following:
  • Specialist knowledge across range of procedures underpinned by theory.
  • Professional knowledge acquired through degree or equivalent, plus short specialist courses, experience to post-graduate equivalent diploma level.
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as an Occupational Therapist.
  • It is also desirable for you to show evidence of the following:
  • Experience or training in assessing and treating musculoskeletal disorders using the biopsychosocial approach.
  • Experience of training in Vocational Occupational Therapy.
  • Experience of delivering group patient education for complex long term health issues, such as chronic fatigue, persistent pain, rheumatology.

The reason why you are appointed for a fixed period is due Maternity cover for the first post and secondment cover for the second. These posts will therefore end on 1st February 2021 for the maternity cover and 4th January 2021 for secondment cover.
