Job Description

We are looking for a talented Laboratory Operations Technician to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins Generator Technologies Business in Stamford.Responsibilities:

  • Applies advanced skills and experiences while operating analytical instruments and equipment, performing physical analyses, acquiring, and interpreting data, and documenting technical results in support of production and non-production engineering, quality,and manufacturing groups
  • Effectively utilizes advanced skills and experiences to solve complex problems; compiles, analyzes, and reports performance or progress information to management
  • Develops and documents laboratory methods. Performs routine and complex maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repair of instruments and equipment
  • Understands and applies appropriate company and department rules and guidelines to work. Actively mentors and trains apprentices, trainees, and technicians; addresses training needs within the laboratory
  • Interfaces with customers, suppliers, engineers, and other functions. Coordinates programs including planning, scheduling, ordering, and tracking; handles projects that require significant decisions to be made to work flow and priorities; provides effectivetechnical and project leadership
  • Participates in the maintenance of quality procedures and work instructions
  • Participates in improvement projects; demonstrates adaptability and responsiveness to changing work needs and willingness to undertake new tasks
  • Develops and gives technical presentations to engineers, customers and suppliers
  • Participates in self- and team-audits and associated corrective actions
  • Leads and manages electrical machine witness testing in line with marine society requirements (DNV, BV, LRS, ABS, etc) working directly with marine society inspectors to provide accurate and valid results
  • Leads and manages customer witness testing on electrical machine working to specific test requirements and providing instantaneous analysis/results of the data
  • Leads and manages electrical machine testing for engineering prototype developments, working to detailed test requirements and standards, communicating and reporting detailed test results
  • Ability to adapt, problem solve and improvise under pressure
  • Identifies, controls and reports product non-compliance to the relevant teams
  • Responsible for Upfit/Defit of test cells and machines to facilitate test cell utilisation

  • Data Reporting - Prepares documentation in a manner which clearly organizes and presents testing methods, instrument settings, the data and analysis to allow the engineer and customer to understand the results and form accurate conclusions and recommendations
  • Embedded Software Design and Construction - Constructs embedded software using industry best practices and robust software engineering principles; verifies software updates to ensure quality products
  • Product Problem Solving - Solves product problems using a pocess that protects the customer; determines the assignable cause; implements robust, data-based solutions; and identifies the systemic root causes and recommended actions to prevent problem reoccurrence
  • Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience
