Job Description

Clinical Service Manager for Emergency DepartmentSector: HospitalLocation: HastingsJob type: TemporaryDuration of temporary role: This is a temporary ongoing role with no end date specifiedBand: 8a or 8b depending on skill and experienceBand 8a Pay:£23.00 to £28.50 paye including Holiday pay per hour or £26.50 to £32.00 umbrella per hour depending on skill and experienceBand 8b Pay:£25.50. to £34.00paye including Holiday pay per hour or £32.00 to £39.00 umbrella per hour depending on skill and experienceWorking days and hours: Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm however the suitable candidate may be required to work evenings and weekends, an enhanced rate will be paid.Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Consultant Clinical Lead for Emergency Department and fellow Consultants.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Clinical Lead for Primary Care
  • To take overall responsibility for the Emergency department in collaboration with the Head of Nursing.
  • Lead with the Head of Nursing the Trust realisation of Outstanding 2020 and continuing the Emergency Department upward trajectory.
  • Act as an effective role model in demonstrating the Trust values and behaviours expected from all staff. Displaying excellent interpersonal skills and high degree of professionalism.
  • Responsibility for a budget for clinical and non-clinical pay of £4 million and delivers on budget.
  • Responsibility for on-going improvement projects that include the well-being of staff.
  • Ensure robust and safe clinical & non-clinical rotas that are on budget.
  • Respond in a timely way as per Trust policy Freedom of Information requests, ensuring the Trust Business interests are not compromised.
  • Work collaboratively with specialty leads to develop robust and effective pathways.
  • Ensure the service patients receive is consistently of high quality and is delivered in a manner that respects their privacy, dignity and individuality and embodies the Trust values.
  • Support the clinical governance agenda in agreement with the Head of Nursing by agreeing specific key areas of performance i.e. respond reactively and proactively to the range of clinical governance issues including Risk, Complaints and Patient Experience.
  • Analyse and evaluate key quality/HR data including quantitative and qualitative and make recommendations to practice & service delivery.
  • Work closely with Business Intelligence to analyse data from internal and external sources to identify and monitor trends within the Emergency Department and develop in conjunction with the Head of Nursing action plans to develop practice.
  • Uphold the highest organisational, professional and personal standards in the best interests of patients and service.
  • Work independently guided by broad health and social care strategies along with Trust policies and procedures.
  • Exercises autonomy, decision making, judgement and discretion at a level appropriate to Service Manager.
  • Participate in the strategic development of services/structures within the Clinical Unit balancing need for this strategic development against immediate operational demands.
  • Analyse, evaluate and interpret the implications of national initiatives and strategies collaboratively with the Head of Capacity & senior management accordingly.
  • Deputise for the Head of Nursing as required.
