Locum Consultant Respiratory PhysicianThis is a new post for a Locum Consultant Respiratory Physician in the Medical Division at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, based at Conquest Hospital. This is an exciting time to join forward thinking and expanding respiratory department with supportive colleagues, working together to improve the lung health of our diverse local population. You would join ESHT at an exciting time, we have recently had a very successful CQC inspection, with an overall rating of GOOD, but many areas within medicine rated as OUTSTANDING. Our readmission rates are below our peer group, and our trust mortality rates are below both expected figures and also our wider peer group. We are an organisation that places much importance and pride on being clinically led, and prioritise developing clinical leaders.Locally we had a low prevalence of COVID 19, and one of the lowest mortality figures in the country per 100 000 population. We have divided our Respiratory Ward to enable COVID patient care to remain separate from other patients. We provide ward based CPAP and BiPAP for patients with COVID.We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to join our team, and work to deliver consultant led, efficient, safe and patient centred care in Respiratory and General Medicine. We are particularly interested in candidates with an interest in difficult asthma, interstitial lung disease or Bronchiectasis. Other interests that compliment those of the existing consultants would also be welcome.East Sussex Healthcare Trust has a large respiratory department with 9 permanent Consultant staff (7.25WTE), 3 lung cancer nurses , 2 TB nurses, 2 respiratory physiologists and the Regional East Sussed Pulmonary Service (RESPS) which is a multi-disciplinary team of respiratory nurses, physiotherapists and support workers providing integrated respiratory services to East Sussex residents. We have based on two acute sites: Conquest Hospital in Hastings and Eastbourne District General Hospital. We also provide outpatient services at Bexhill & Rye Hospitals. The respiratory wards are Baird(28 beds) at Conquest and Jevington (27 beds) in Eastbourne. The trust is highly regarded for the under and post graduate education it provides, and has an excellent Education Centre with a state of the art Simulation Suite. East Sussex Healthcare Trust are supported by trainees from KSS . Trainees working at Conquest have consistently given excellent feedback and we have supported them to publish International abstracts this year.Facilities for flexible bronchoscopy and full lung function exist at both acute sites; all interventional bronchoscopies and pleural procedures are performed at Eastbourne DGH. We have a tertiary level sleep service and home ventilation service based at Conquest Hospital. We have a weekly cross site lung cancer MDM with a thoracic surgeon dialling in from Guy’s Hospital and presence on site of all the other lung MDM core members.
