Job Description

Events & Visitor Experience Manager £30,000 + BenefitsSt Albans, HertfordshireThe RoleDo you have previous experience of a managing a team in a different sector with an interest in working in the faith or heritage sector If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you.St Albans Cathedral is looking for a passionate individual to join our team as an Events & Visitor Experience Manager. In this role you will oversees the day-to-day floor operation of the Cathedral to deliver an outstanding visitor experience.The role has strategic oversight of all planned event activity and is the lead for major events. The Cathedral is looking to develop its commercial activities within the context of its overall mission and ministry activity.This is a new post established to create a more strategic oversight of all planned activity in the Cathedral Diary and on the Cathedral floor. The breadth of the role makes this position both interesting and challenging. The Cathedral is a seven day a weekoperation and the post holder will need to be flexible on hours worked according to the nature of events taking place.Key Responsibilities:The key responsibilities of an Events & Visitor Experience Manager include, but are not limited to:

  • Be the Cathedral lead for major events and develop new future commercial venue hire opportunities.
  • Provide a professional service to all organisers of internally and externally booked events and manage the front of house team to provide an excellent visitor experience.
The CathedralSt Albans Cathedral is a major site of pilgrimage and worship to this day, welcoming people of all ages and from many different backgrounds. It is the oldest site of continuous Christian worship in Britain and home to the shrines of St Alban and St Amphibalus,several world-class medieval wall paintings and an amazing mix of architectural styles that bear witness to many centuries of its life.The Cathedral welcomes over 400,00 visitors a year and its rich programme of events, concerts, exhibitions and special services all contribute to helping grow the local economy, supporting visitor growth and local residents engagement.The Benefits
  • 35 hours per week over 5 days - some weekend and evening working.
  • Annual leave: 25 days plus public holidays.
The PersonThe key skills and qualities of an Events & Visitor Experience Manager are:
  • Experience of event or operations management in another sector such as hospitality, tourism, heritage or charity sectors.
  • Experience of managing a team.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability and understanding of how to build, motivate, inspire and lead a team.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to plan, prioritise work and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to work flexibilityrequirement for weekend working one in three weekends.
