Job Description

We are looking for a talented, passionate and ambitious staff team to join SIG Penroses Criminal Justice division for the mobilisation and delivery of a flagship new service.We will be opening a new residential service supporting men assessed as high-risk and/or with complex needs to resettle back into the community following release from prison. Working closely in partnership with The Probation Service (TPS), the service willoffer intensive levels of support and supervision to provide a vital bridge between prison and the community, reduce reoffending and protect the public.Staffed 24 hours per day, the service will be rooted in the principles of psychologically-informed and enabling environments; providing a safe, supported space for residents to be engaged, encouraged, constructively challenged, motivated and supported towardslasting change. It will be a hive of meaningful activity with our team and partner agencies delivering a comprehensive range of interventions, both 1-1 and groups, addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour.We are currently recruiting for:

  • Chef/Cook (Health and Nutrition Coach) - Full Time - 37.5 hours per week
  • Chef/Cook (Health and Nutrition Coach) - Part Time - 22.5 hours per week
As the Cook/Chef (Health and Nutrition Coach), you will be responsible for planning, organising and providing high quality, nutritious and interesting meals up to three times daily, with an emphasis on healthy eating. Working closely with the team, you willensure the service has an effective stock control system for food supplies, quality and quantity and ensure regular and routine cleaning of the kitchen and dining room areas. Along with this, you will work alongside the management team to develop new menusand products and look at using more sustainable food to reduce our carbon footprint alongside wastage.Using your creative and engagement skills, you will deliver workshops to residents on food preparation, nutrition, meal planning and budgeting and food hygiene and support residents to develop life skills that will enable them to move on successfully.Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide three meals daily (including two hot) with an emphasis on healthy eating.
  • Ensure that any specialist diets on the grounds of religious beliefs, health or medical issues will be catered for.
  • Deliver workshops to residents on food preparation, nutrition, meal planning and budgeting and food hygiene.
  • Support residents to contribute to developing shopping lists, ordering food and making meals (where appropriate). .
  • In consultation with staff and residents plan all menus to maximise variety of dietary, health, culturally and nutritional consideration
  • In consultation with the staff and residents, manage that food budget of the service to maximise the nutritional benefit to residents whilst maintaining cost effectiveness
  • Assist in enabling clients of the service to develop life skills by ensuring adequate materials and food in resident the kitchen area is accessible to all clients
  • Keeping the kitchen and dining room clean and tidy, including washing up all dishes pots etc, and generally see the proper control of hygiene, health and safety regulations are exercised in the kitchen and dining areas, service users may assist with thisas part of chores.
Experience Required:
  • NVQ Level 2 in Food Processing and Cooking, equivalent or higher
  • Food and Hygiene Level 2 certificate
  • Experience of cooking nutritional meals within a residential setting
  • Understanding of Environmental Health Regulations relative to a catering provision
  • Experience of coordinating and/or delivering activities and interventions to vulnerable people.
  • Have the ability to communicate to senior members of the team to report any issues/concerns
  • Be approachable and friendly with excellent customer relation skills
  • Be able to work on his/her own initiative displaying proactive qualities and provide a high standard of work
