  • Accountable for design, build, and support of AWS infrastructure as code, plus relevant tooling.
  • Day-to-day role, operating in an AWS environment:
  • Contribute to, develop and maintain the customers AWS infrastructure and tooling roadmap
  • Create, own and maintain necessary AWS designs and supporting logical diagrams
  • In conjunction with the Devops engineering team, create, own and maintain standards for AWS naming and AWS build standards (throughout Git / Terraform / Jenkins tooling)
  • Scope and oversee all Devops team build work
  • Build AWS infrastructure in Terraform
  • Contribute to overall design of release and deployment process
  • Attend Architecture Design Boards, submit to the same, and gain necessary decisions
  • Analyze business requirements to develop infrastructure solutions within AWS and perform initial scoping of your own design work
  • Provide L3 support for all aspects of AWS infrastructure architecture, and tooling
  • Key individual to resolve issues, on a root cause fix basis; significant experience of similar roles operating in an agile environment.
  • Create and implement a rolling plan for upgrading of AWS infrastructure.
  • Provide technical leadership and consultancy to internal development teams and customer stakeholders, ensuring AWS infrastructure, and all tooling, is fit for purpose, whilst meeting time, performance, availability, security and budget constraints
  • Encourage communication across multiple development teams to identify strategic requirements and dependencies
  • Enable a positive technical culture, applying agile methods to development and completing quality assurance practices
  • Advise product managers on the estimated effort and technical implications of current user stories, as well as those in the backlog
  • Form relationships with external suppliers as required
  • Help enable the reuse of patterns, tools, and components across the whole department and government service landscape

  • Skills and experience Its essential that you have significant experience in the majority of:
  • Architecting for IaaS at scale: at least several hundred VMs.
  • Architecting data storage at scale in an extremely secure environment
  • Infrastructure as code in an AWS environment, including personally coding in Terraform
  • Cloud computing, AWS in particular, and contemporary tooling for automation in development
  • Real-world applications of security, at scale, in an agile development environment
  • Large scale agile environments, having delivered and supported CI/CD in such an environment.
  • Leading technical teams and delivering user-focused services
  • Software development and application architecture, with good knowledge of open source technologies, testing and at least one programming language
  • Understanding how to influence senior management and communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Dealing safely with data protection and all other relevant laws.
