Job Description

Notting Hill & Ealing High School, one of Londons leading independent girls day schools, has an exciting opportunity for an inspirational teacher of Spanish to contribute to a successful department in both its curricular and extra-curricular activities. We are looking for a well-qualified graduate of Spanish with a passion for the subject and excellent subject knowledge, with good organisational and time management skills. If you are a good communicator who can enthuse and inspire about the teaching of Spanish and the ways in which it can be further developed and encouraged, we would be delighted to hear from you.Spanish at NHEHSSpanish is a vibrant and popular subject and enjoys a high profile in the school. Students study Spanish in Year 7, through a specially designed carousel of European languages, which also includes French and German. Our students have been really enjoying the opportunity to experience the language and the culture, before making an informed decision on which languages to choose as they progress up the school. As students grow in confidence and competence, they have the opportunity to go to Cantabria, in Year 8, and to Salamanca, in Year 11. Lessons are taught in the target language, ideas are regularly discussed, and resources shared between colleagues. We are frequently introducing new ways to enthuse and inspire the girls, such as short stories, poetry writing and short film making. We were delighted that our Year 9 Spanish actors were runners up in the short play category at the GDST Languages Festival, which we hosted in February, with their re-imagining of Finding Nemo. Girls in the Upper School work with native speaker assistants, who are a great asset. Strong numbers continue to study Spanish at A level, when they have the opportunity to hone their linguistic skills, tackle complex grammar and discuss historical, political, economic and social issues. Finally, there is an established and very successful Oxbridge preparation programme and a thriving extracurricular programme, involving a film club and theatre trips. For example, we have been to see Lorcas play La Casa de Bernarda Alba and a theatrical adaptation of Don Quijote. Teaching at NHEHS"Teaching here is all about being able to have in-depth conversations with students about your subject and helping to enthuse them with the same passion as you have.
