The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonaland communication skills and have a caring and positive attitude.The SEMH School near Durrington educates children from 5 to 18 all of whom have social, emotional and mental health needs. This can range from anxiety, depression, OCD, Tourettes, developmental delay, and severe trauma. You will therefore need to be understanding,resilient and up for a challenge! As a recent Psychology/Criminology/Sociology graduate, you will need to use your knowledge of mental health and development to support the students and encourage them to learn.At this SEMH School no two days are the same! However, your general duties will involve working closely with a small class of students to support their academic and emotional development. You will help manage the classroom behaviour and be able to deal withchallenging behaviour effectively. Under the guidance of the class teacher, you will help make the classroom a fun, engaging and safe place. You will also help the children develop appropriate social skills and provide them with a trusting adult relationship.If you are passionate about helping about working with vulnerable young people and want to help build their trust and confidence, then this Mental Health Support role is perfect for you!As a Social & Emotional Classroom Support Assistant, this will provide you with a fantastic opportunity to shadow the Educational Psychologist on-site, as well as the Speech & Language Therapist and SENCO.
