SummaryAs a Senior Propagator youll use your propagation and plant husbandry skills to propagate and raise the large variety of rare, delicate, or otherwise significant plants entrusted to the Plant Conservation Centre (PCC). Youll carry out the day-to-day operation of the nursery, from plant care through to record keeping, and be responsible for the management of pests and diseases. As an experienced propagator, youll also support and chair a network of propagators throughout Trust gardens, including the development and delivery of specialist training.What its like to work hereIts an incredible place to work and youll be responsible for producing plants that will be cared for in our living collections for decades to come. There are opportunities to build relationships with specialists across the Trust and within other organisations, to share the work of the PCC with the public, and to identify and implement new best practices or ways of working.What youll be doingA confident, positive asset to any team, youre truly passionate about plants and gardening and youll want to make the most of this rare opportunity to share such a diverse and fascinating environment. Joining our dedicated conservation team, youll help look after the day-to-day management of the nursery, propagating and producing an extensive variety of plants for the replenishment of National Trust gardens across the country. This will include managing stock control, plant production and plant movement records. Youll also work closely with your team, supporting the Nursery Manager and Propagator in fostering an atmosphere of confidence, enthusiasm and commitment.Who were looking forTo be successful in this role, Youll have significant practical experience in a large variety of plant propagation methods, as well as plant production and husbandry, supported by appropriate qualifications to RHS level 3 (or equivalent level of vocational experience). Youll have proven experience of team working and good people skills, with some experience of working with volunteers. Youll have a keen eye for detail, whether its spotting potential plant health issues or keeping accurate records. Youll have experience of developing and delivering horticultural training and supporting trainees with improving their specialist skills. Youll have a valid driving licence and be flexible enough to regularly commit to a weekend working rota every three-four weeks plus occasional out of hours duties.
