Job Description

Programme Manager - Environmental Sustainability LeadABOUT THE ROLEThe fifteen Academic Health Science Networks, who are all commissioned in the UK by NHS England, NHS Improvement and the Office for Life Sciences, work with innovators and the frontlineof the NHS to improve services and bring more innovation into clinical practise to benefit patients and improve productivity.The AHSN Network has established a Community of Interest (COI) for Environmental Sustainability. This has prioritised shared learningacross the NHS to mitigate greenhouse gases through innovation. The COI meets regularly and is a very powerful means of sharing best practice and innovation, engaging innovators and policymakers.KSS AHSN, in conjunction with Oxford AHSN, are recruiting foran Environmental Sustainability Lead. The role holder will be the responsible Programme Manager, working closely with a broad range of partners and stakeholders, to both lead and grow the Environmental Sustainability function of both AHSNs.The role is criticalin enabling the AHSN organisations to contribute to the delivery of a substantial programme, in line with priorities set by NHS England policymakers and Greener NHS.NHS priorities include a range of objectives to enable more sustainable healthcare, including;putting in place initiatives to reduce demand on the NHS improved use of resources (including supply chain and standardising consumables to reduce complexity) utilising data/technology in offsetting climate change increasing the application of more sustainablereuse and recycling.The role involves ensuring that all of the major AHSN programmes take into account their environmental impact, including carbon footprint and wider ecological implications on the NHS and that sustainability cases are produced in a consistentmanner, using an agreed methodology. This also involves calculating the impact using a sustainability toolkit, in conjunction with broader business case development.The role holder will be based at Oxford AHSNs primary place of business, but will predominantlywork remotely. However, due to the nature of the role, the role holder will be required to periodically travel within the Oxford footprint and occasionally to other locations within the UK, including the Kent, Surrey, Sussex (KSS) geography.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESInsummary, the role comprises three broad components: Engagement - linking up across the regional health and care system on major initiatives on sustainability, including a broad range of key partners and stakeholders Representation - acting as the sustainabilityprogramme lead for both KSS and Oxford AHSNs, also representing both AHSNs in local and national forums on our sustainability programmes Delivery - this is not a coordination role, the post holder will need to manage and deliver at least two substantial sustainabilityprogrammes, working with the other AHSN programmes and other AHSNs.More specifically, the role involves; prioritising opportunities, focusing on key areas to influence delivery of tangible benefits, to help build a sustainable and secure supply chain for thefuture contributing towards a more over-arching and strategic approach to what have, to date, been typically more local and piecemeal solutions taking advantage of and developing more significant steps to improve new ways of working facilitating collaborationand sharing best practice between NHS institutions, within the footprints of the two AHSNs supporting the prioritisation and uptake of innovation by the NHS, in the regions establishing, maintaining and developing effective and constructive working relationshipsacross the region and nationally.KEY SKILLS AND EXPERTISEYou will be the right person for this job if: You have experience and knowledge of health and care systems and system improvement. You are passionate about solving problems, no matter if theyre bigor small; and have a strong mindset of getting things done. You actively identify opportunities, deliver improvements, and proactively implement and follow project/programme management methodologies and processes. You are great at managing expectations, ensuringdelivery of the highest quality service, and soliciting and acting on stakeholder feedback. You have great communication skills (verbal and written), especially when it comes to communicating and documenting programme statuses and recommendations to stakeholdersand team members.KEY TERMS AND BENEFITSYoull benefit from: A competitive salary, with full-time hours of work at 37.5 hrs per week, excluding lunch breaks.
