Job Description

Principal Stress & Compliance Verification Engineer Broughton, Nr Chester The Principal Stress Engineer will be part of a team and report to the Head of Stress within the Raytheons Airborne organisation. Also should be suitably qualified and experienced to perform as a Compliance Verification Engineer (CVE), under delegated authority from the Head of Airworthiness to support certification of modifications. Responsibilities include: Compliance Verification of modifications to satisfy stress certification requirements of the regulatory authorities; CAA, MAA & EASA. Providing Stress analysis for modification proposals for Aircraft structural and mechanical modifications and enhancements. Reviewing and approving structural substantiation documentation produced by other members of staff or by suppliers to provide assurance of compliance with relevant customer and regulatory requirements. Progressing structural and mechanical design modifications in accordance with regulatory requirements, providing signature approval of all pertinent design documentation. Overseeing of design process from concept phase through to completion to ensure regulatory compliance is achieved. Liaison with other departments and OEMs re damage/defect investigations and corrective actions Ensuring all engineering activities undertaken under their control are conducted in accordance with RSL site procedures that reflects best practice and in accordance with RSL and external authority (Civil and Military) requirements Supporting Airborne projects across several UK based sites, with possible overseas working Support to formal customer reviews, including the Structural Integrity Working Groups, Local Technical Committees and Configuration Control Boards Support/mentoring of other stress and mechanical engineers Assisting on projects in the Bid/Proposal process to ensure robust Basis of Estimate (BOE). Extensive experience required as Stress Engineer at a senior level within the Military and Civil Aerospace industry and able to demonstrate knowledge of and hands on capability of both classical longhand calculation procedures and Finite Element Methods. Analysis experience/approval of wide range of aircraft structure required including cabin interiors and primary global airframe structure. Extensive experience working with an Design Organisation at signatory level and able to demonstrate a comprehensive working knowledge of EASA Part 21J and BACR A8-21 regulatory, airworthiness requirements.A track record of CVE responsibility is essential. Knowledge of design analysis methods for repair to metallic and composite airframe structure including internal and external repairs A proactive team-player who can motivate and support peers Established engineering capability and someone who can anticipate problems and plan to mitigate An able communicator in verbal, written and presentational forms A logical problem solver who can operate effectively under stretching project constraints High degree of commercial awareness with the ability to recognise and manage change, during the project cycle. Able to manage and work within agreed timescales and task budgets Candidate Requirements: Essential: Degree or equivalent qualification and experience in engineering/science discipline Track record of signatory responsibility within the aerospace industry including approval of technical reports, drawings and Compliance Verification Experience of working with multi discipline technical teams and individuals High level of integrity and experience An in-depth understanding of the full lifecycle of development programmes for the UK MoD and the MoD customer acquisition processes Knowledge and experience of working on MoD Aircraft Platform system operational, ISTAR Operational and Procurement Domains Knowledge and experience of the theory and practical implementation of Structural Integrity (SI) Management on Military to ensure compliance with MAA regulatory requirements. Experience of delivery of complex programmes to UK MoD and international customers Ability to help shape and produce winning bids into the target customer community Established customer and supplier negotiation skills Strong interpersonal skills, team motivator, able to build strong relationships with customers and peers. Excellent Communication skills - written and verbal at all levels within the organisation to Board level and with the customer Commercially astute with excellent negotiation skills Capable of managing and motivating a diverse team in the delivery of innovative solutions Eligible for or holder of current SC security clearance (RSL will sponsor as required) Desirable: Knowledge of composite materials and associated analysis methods.
