Job Description

Wiltshire Social Services are looking for a Principal Social Worker (PSW) to work as part of the senior team to ensure the effective delivery of services and outcomes across adult social care, providing an effective link between the Senior Management Teamand operational practice. As PSW, you will provide practice and professional leadership, support and supervision for social workers and social care staff in adult care teams. The PSW is responsible and accountable for developing excellent social work practice. The Principal Social Worker will ensure social work is well defined and embedded across Adult Social Care. This role will uphold standards of practice for social workers as defined by Social Work England and in accordance with the Professional Capabilities Framework for Social Workers and share best practice across wider social care and people directorate. The PSW will have a critical role within the senior management team, ensuring feedback from the social work front-line is heard by managers and partners at all levels as well a s identifying and developing improvements to social work practice and expertise at all levels The PSW will manage, lead and coordinate the development of quality social work practice within adult social care with a focus on the identification of opportunities for service improvement and to provide independent scrutiny of practice and standards. The PSW will develop a strong professional relationship with the PSW for Families and Childrens services to promote and support the development of a newly formed Peoples Directorate, sharing learning and raising the profile of social work practice acrossinternal and external partners. The PSW will promote the development of the whole service identity and shared objectives, including attending regular whole service team meetings and oversee the quality and development of practice, developing and leading onimprovement, quality and efficiency initiatives and develop an accountable performance culture ensuring staff aspire to achieve individual and team targets. The PSW will sit within the Performance Quality and Assurance service within People services and will oversee and ensure staff engagement, personal and professional development and succession planning - including having lead responsibility for development andimplementation of the Adult Social Care Workforce strategy. They will also develop strategies in relation to recruitment and retention (including apprenticeships and training pathways) and have oversight of the development of career pathways for staff acrossthe directorate. The PSW will also provide support to the Pan Wiltshire and Dorset Social Work Teaching Partnership. As an experienced social worker you will use your specialist knowledge and skills to coordinate and deliver a program of learning and development in response to a training needs analysis and in accordance with the Professional Capabilities Framework, ensuringstaff are skilled to meet the requirements for social work registration and validation. The suitable candidate will be an experienced social worker, registered on SWE & ideally with a post graduate qualification in a similar discipline, with detailed knowledge of relevant legislation, policy practice and procedures (including strength and asset-basedapproaches) and current issues and priorities for Adults Services. You will also have substantial knowledge of adult care legislation, Making Safeguarding Personal procedures and other relevant policy/legislation whilst showing a clear understanding of the needs of adults who require our support. Leading across Adult Services you will be an effective manager, working with social workers as well as other professionals including occupational therapists and customer co-ordinators to identify opportunities to improve the impact of all our work with adultswho may require our support.
