Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Post Graduate Assistant Teacher of Sport with a cricket and/or netball specialism. This fixed-term role will start in August 2021 and end in August 2022.THE DEPARTMENTThe sports department consists of 8 members of teaching staff, typically 6-7 assistant teachers who support the delivery of the games programme, and a dedicated Sports Administrator. Based in the astonishing new School of Science and Sport, a very wide and varied games programme is offered. All pupils participate in twice weekly games sessions, with supplementary sessions for the representative squads in the core sports of athletics, cricket, football, hockey, netball and rugby. Recent successes include National Rosslyn Park Rugby 7s and St Josephs College Festival winners, national netball finalists, numerous international athletics vests, Sussex and South East Hockey League champions at U18 and Sussex County Cricket champions. Physical Education is also taught as an academic subject from the Lower Fifth (Year 10) upwards. At present we follow the AQA syllabus for GCSE in the Fifth Form, and offer a BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Sport in the Sixth Form.THE ROLEThe role would suit a new graduate considering a career in teaching, or someone switching into education from another sector, including those retiring from professional sport. No teaching experience or qualification is required. Fundamentally, we are looking for someone who is passionate about sport and wishes to share that passion with enthusiastic and energetic young people. We are interested in candidates who are able to offer coaching to a good standard in at cricket and/or netball, although applicants are invited to point to other areas of sporting specialism and interest as part of their application.The post may involve some or all of the following: Leading and coaching games sessions in one core sport per term Accompanying teams to fixtures and potentially officiating Being a boarding house tutor - working with boarding staff to deliver quality pastoral care and activities for boarding pupils. This will include regular (and occasionally overnight) duties Team-teaching and assisting experienced subject teachers in academic lessons or teaching small groups in specialised topic areas Running or assisting with societies and co-curricular activities as appropriate Being involved in school visits Undertaking cover duties.The appointed candidate will be an associate member of the Common Room.All Post-Graduate Assistant Teachers joining Brighton will have the benefit of guidance from an experienced mentor, whose role it will be to provide support during their probationary period.
