Job Description

The starting salary for this position is £40,227 per annum (NHS Band 7 equivalent) for 36 hours per week but we would also consider a term time post (42 weeks per year).We have exciting fixed term/secondment opportunities for those wishing to work as aHighly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist within our team. Surrey has an ambition to ensure that children are educated close to home and that they receive the right provision to meet their needs. There are a number of children who have had to be educatedaway from home, for whom there are now local options. This role will support that ambition. Another exciting part of the role will be to work as part of the Learners Single Point of Access (LSPA) working as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) to supportdecision making around how childrens needs can be met and working with the wider service, schools and families to ensure this happens. In this role you will also: Hold your own small specialist clinical caseload in area of your clinical expertise Providesecond opinions, observation and support, training and shadowing opportunities to colleagues in area of clinical expertise Work with colleagues across Surrey to ensure the wider team is informed of current research and evidence base, and that clinical practiceis of high quality and reflects the research and evidence base. Represent the service at tribunals by presenting strong evidence-based practices. Support with complex casework for children currently educated out of county to ensure their needs can be met incountyThe Service The School-Aged Speech and Language Therapy Service is part of Surrey County Councils local offer to support the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities of children and young people within mainstream schools and specialist provision.The Service is part of the Vulnerable Learners Team in Surreys Children, Families and Learning directorate, and as such works collaboratively with other teams such as educational psychology, learning and language support, REMA and Behaviour Support.The TeamThe main function and aim of the service is for children and young people with speech, language and communication needs to receive the right support at the right time. This is achieved through assessment and intervention, equipping families and professionalswith the skills and resources to work together to help and support children with SLCN. We work with children and young people with EHCPs (Education, Health & Care Plan) and those at SEN (Special Education Needs) support. We are a large team (over 150) of bothqualified therapists and non-qualified therapy assistants. We have excellent supervision and CPD models Last year we presented at the South Central Hub Event for our innovative work with student placements We work closely with the SCALES project lead; CourtneyNorbury to learn from the research to inform practice.Within Surrey we work across the four geographical quadrants, each managed by a Quadrant Lead. The teams in each quadrant are made up of a skill mix of speech and language therapists and speech and languagetherapy assistants. There are a team of Highly Specialist/Clinical Team leads in each geographical area to work together to support the team and support service development.North East: Epsom & Ewell, Spelthorne, and Elmbridge (base: Fairmount House, Bull Hill,Leatherhead KT22 7AH)South East: Reigate & Banstead, Mole Valley, and Tandridge (base: Consort House, 5-7 Queensway, Redhill RH1 1YB)North West: Woking, Runnymede, and Surrey Heath (base: Quadrant Court, 35 Guildford Road, Woking GU22 7QQ)South West: Guildfordand Waverley (base: Quadrant Court, 35 Guildford Road, Woking GU22 7QQ)To apply and be considered for this position your application will clearly evidence: Speech and language therapist background with at least 5 years post graduate experience, and specificexperience working with young people in a school environment including: An area of specialism with associated evidenced based practice Knowledge of the National Curriculum and Code of Practice and experience in delivering universal, targeted and specialistlevels of intervention Experience of working within an effective multidisciplinary team Experience of successfully managing difficult conversations and meetings Advanced clinical decision making Flexibility to adapt both clinical approach and communicationstyle to ensure that assessment, reports, therapy inputs and outcomes are functional and client centred Experience of training and positively influencing practice in large staff teams Experience of line managing and supporting others A BSc (Hons) degree orequivalent in Speech and Language Therapy Registered membership of the Health and Care Professions Council Registered membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language TherapistsAdditional InformationThe job advert closes at 23:59 on 22.10.2021 but wemay contact applicants sooner than the closing date.
