Do you have research leadership skills and experience managing, developing and mentoring individuals and teams Do you want to take on a key role in developing the work of the Research Department in fostering research across the Science Museum GroupTheScience Museum Group is about to commence its major academic research project, "The Congruence Engine: Digital Tools for New Collections-Based Industrial Histories" the aim of which is to show how AI and other computational tools can be used to link collectionsfor the purpose of doing new historical work and to enhance accessThis exciting £2.9M three-year project is one of five funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council under the Towards a National Collection scheme. The project will consider the historiesof the textiles, energy and communications sectors in turn, with activity planned for museums and cities across the UK.We are recruiting for a Deputy Head of Research and Public History to continue and develop the work of the Research Department in fosteringresearch across the Science Museum Group by managing the major areas of departmental activity.This post will appeal particularly to candidates with a passionate commitment to the potential for research to transform cultural or other public facing heritageorganisations. University- or IRO-based managers and experts in fields relevant to the subject remit and activities of the Science Museum Group will relish the opportunity to build on the success of the last decade of the departments development.In this roleyou will demonstrate high level competence in developing and leading at least one, and ideally all, of the departments core areas of activity: postgraduate (Masters and Doctoral training); academic publication; and the seeking and delivery of research grants.Joiningus you will have research leadership skills and experience of managing, developing and mentoring individuals and teams. This will enable you to develop an open and collaborative approach across several disciplines to support a variety of colleagues to developresearch projects across the Science Museum Group.
