Job Description

Research Project Manager (Scientific Writing / Oncology) c35k + BenefitsSouth East Permanent Ref: ABJ5067As a research manager (desk based project role) with experience scientific writing in oncology and health education you would be responsible for the managing projects within a global research project This health research manager will also be responsible for developing the project in the relationships between oncology and diet and nutrition and overseeing cancer statistics, including estimates of the proportion of cases of cancer that are preventable. This project analyses global cancer prevention and survival research linked to diet, nutrition, physical activity and weight. As research manager you would be a full part of its next phase of its development, scheduled to start in the spring of 2021.The project provides a global analysis of all relevant data linking diet, nutrition, physical activity and cancer, and is underpinned by a database housed at a top London university. You will have overall responsibility to being actively involved in the project the development of different parts of the project in a timely and efficient manner, as well as contributing to the overall strategy underpinning the project and its outputs.On a daily basis you will work diplomatically and co-operatively with colleagues to provide information and advice to the other departments within the company network (in the UK, Netherlands, US and Hong Kong).Responsibilities:

  • Providing an up-to-date analysis of the evidence linking diet, nutrition and physical activity to risk of, and survival from, cancer (in systematic literature reviews, SLRs)
  • Providing expert judgement on that evidence including the likelihood that particular exposures are related to cancer outcomes
  • Providing authoritative expert guidance on how best to reduce risk of cancer and improve outcome after diagnosis (for cancer prevention recommendations)
  • Expand our work on cancer survivors, including assessing the evidence on the role of diet, body fatness and physical activity on outcomes after breast, colorectal and prostate cancer survivors
  • Continue to provide the best possible estimates of risk/benefit related to pertinent exposures and outcomes
  • Qualification and Experience
  • MSc qualified in relevant subject (human nutrition / public health) and some post MSc experience in an academic or commercial setting in a relevant area such as nutrition, cancer, epidemiology, public health
  • Understanding of epidemiology and biological mechanisms as applied to diet, nutrition, physical activity and weight and cancer, strong project management skills and experience of evidence synthesis and interpretation.
  • Proven experience of working in a scientific administrative environment.
  • Proven experience of scientific writing, including report writing, production of minutes
  • and a variety of professional letters.
  • Ability to interpret systematic reviews and meta-analyses.
  • Nutrition and/or public health experience.
  • Proven experience of project management and/or planning projects.
  • Understanding of epidemiology as applied to nutrition and/or cancer. (desirable
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues and a wide range of external partners.
  • Excel, Word, PowerPoint and databases.
  • Flexible approach to work and willingness to take on other responsibilities outside of job
  • Ability to negotiate, influence, foster and develop strong working relationships within.
  • Experience of writing scientific papers and presenting to scientific audiences
