Job Description

Base Location: SloughSalary: £45,000 - £59,000 depending on skills and experience + annual bonusWorking Pattern: Permanent | Full Time 37 hours per weekAbout the DepartmentSSE Enterprise comprises three companies: Contracting, Telecoms and Distributed Energy. SSE Enterprise Utilities is part of the Distributed Energy business of SSE plc. Distributed Energy offers a full range of services which contribute to the development of smart cities and smart places, in both public and private sectors. We finance, own, operate and maintain a broad portfolio, from electrical vehicle (EV) infrastructure, to distributed energy systems including renewable and low-carbon generation, energy storage and heat networks as well as building owning and adopting private HV networks.Slough Heat and Power (SHP) provides electrical power to the Slough Trading Estate by means of a private electrical power network. It owns and operates several primary and secondary substations including 33kV, 11kV and LV assets.What is the RoleThe Enterprise & SHP Control Centre will manage the Operations & Maintenance of Slough Heat & Power as well as other private EHV/HV networks across the UK.We are looking for an experienced Control Engineer or Senior Authorised Person on EHV/HV systems, with extensive control or operational SAP experience within a UK Distribution Network Operation environment.Within this role you will be responsible for the safe control, reliable operation and improved performance of the Enterprise & SHP distribution networks, through operational planning, network monitoring and controlling of switching operations.You will contribute actively to the investment program to improve the heath index and network safety, while you will have the opportunity to support new connection projects and network expansion in the SHP estate and SSE Enterprise and help the business deliver our growth strategy for the networks.We are looking for an enthusiastic professional, who will be able to work effectively either as part of a team or independently applying sound engineering judgement and making decisions under pressure.You will ensure safety standards are adhered to and support with the up-keeping and development of processes and procedures in order to maintain our excellent safety record.Within this role, you will communicate with internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to Distribution Network Operators, Generators, project teams and SAPs.The Control Centre will support the electricity network operations 24/7, 365 days a year, so it is expected that shift working patterns and stand-by cover may be required.What do I needIdeally you will have previous experience as a Control Engineer within a Distribution Network Operators control centre. Alternatively, you will have held the position of Senior Authorised Person (SAP) with significant operational practice in the field including preparation of outage schedules. A recognised Qualification in Electrical engineering (Degree, HNC) would be desirable.You will have demonstrable knowledge of electrical power operation of EHV, HV and LV networks and associated assets combined with solid experience assessing network security, availability, performance and capabilities. A track record of fault restoration coordination of field engineers and switching operations would also be desirable.You should have working knowledge of Network Management System (NMS) software and be familiar with SCADA systems, power system modelling analysis, and clear presentation of results by using spreadsheets.With an excellent attention to detail, you will have the ability to identify issues or anomalies over sources of data, make decisions and solve problems with minimal input or support.Strong verbal and written communications skills are necessary to allow you to liaise and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.Our BenefitsWere committed to ensuring we offer our people a great place to work, with competitive salary, contributory pension plan and benefits package.
