Job Description

Protein Characterisation - ELISA - AKTA - Chromatography - Spectroscopy - Slough My client is a top tier global Pharma company, looking for a laboratory-based characterisation Research Scientist the BFCS team. The focus of BFCS team is the comprehensive and detailed characterisation of therapeutic proteins, characterisation of protein production processes and understanding of molecular vulnerabilities and degradation pathways. The Successful candidate will be joining a team which uses a wide range of biophysical and physicochemical techniques to characterise biotherapeutics and should have extensive experience in the use of analytical methods to characterise proteins. Other techniques which would be desirable for the position include chromatography (HPLC, UPLC and AKTA), electrophoresis (gel and capillary), spectroscopy (circular dichroism, FTIR, fluorescence), DSC and activity assays (SPR and ELISA) and will ideally have experience in several of these techniques within a development setting. Knowledge of glycan characterisation or immunogenicity assays would also be beneficial. This is an ideal opportunity for an enthusiastic scientist to develop skills and experience in the biopharmaceutical sector. Main Responsibilities:

  • Analysis of protein therapeutics using a range of techniques, including HPLC/UPLC, CGE, FTIR, CD, DSC, SPR and ELISA.
  • Interpretation of results
  • Accurate and timely record keeping
  • Contribute to authorship of analytical aspects of regulatory submissions, technical procedures, protocols and reports
  • Communication of results to the team and management
  • Tackle scientific problems
  • Develop analytical methodologies
  • Assay and instrument troubleshooting
  • Research specific analytical protocols (literature) and keep aware of latest analytical techniques
  • Ensure high levels of quality and data integrity
  • Ensure maintenance of lab equipment
  • Ordering of lab supplies and consumables
  • Requirements:
  • Relevant degree plus laboratory experience (academic or industrial) using in a pharmaceutical environment, preferably within a characterisation or method development team
  • Extensive experience of the analytical techniques including; HPLC/UPLC, CGE, FTIR, CD, DSC, SPR and ELISA.
  • Experience of a Development environment and the level of quality required to produce data used in regulatory filings.
  • Experience of GxP is preferred.
