Job Description

The CompanyPart of the Water Division of Halma PLC, Hanovia is a leader in the design and manufacture of Ultraviolet disinfection technology for a wide variety of fluid applications. Our products range from standard to custom engineered solutions involving chemical, light science, electrical and mechanical engineering. We distribute our products globally.To meet ongoing growth, we are looking for a New Product Development Manager to manage our product development activities out of our UK site in Slough. Reporting to the Technical Director, the New Product Development Manager will be responsible for the optimisation and development of competitive product solutions, features and applications.Main purpose of job:Development of new PLC control system designs and maintaining current software up to date using electrical schematics and Control Philosophy/FDS. Testing of electrical/electronic and control systems, producing detailed design, programming of Allen Bradley (AB) PLCs and HMIs. On site commissioning of special projects when required.Main Responsibilities:

  • Developing and maintaining our range of equipment using Allen Bradley PLCs Micro800, CompactLogix and associated HMIs by writing well-structured PLC/HMI code
  • Creating function blocks in structured text and ladder logic, taking forward our intuitive HMI style across all our platforms
  • Able to work with senior management and develop a clear to understand Control philosophy and when agreed a detailed FDS leading to clear concise software
  • An understanding of how to integrate the system into customer’s overall control system using Ethernet and Modbus protocols
  • Help troubleshoot issues with software and hardware in Test department
  • Reporting, communicating and working with other departments as a team
  • Planning and managing own projects and work packages
  • Commissioning and start-up of larger special projects when service need assistance
  • Provide Tier 3 software support to colleagues and customers when required
    • Candidate Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or Controls based qualification
  • 2-3 years’ experience, knowledge and understanding in PLC programming and controls industry
  • Good project management and problem-solving skills
  • Give ideas and new concepts to improve the products
  • Good communication skills
  • Be able to read and understand electrical and control schematics
    • Preferred:
  • Firmware engineering and experience in embedded C/C++ and other visual language
  • Project Management tools like PRINCE 2 or similar
  • EMC testing experience
  • Be flexible and able to work to meet tight deadlines and work on multiple projects/tasks
  • Good understanding of water/process engineering
  • Fault finding and be able to work comfortably up to 480Vac
  • Work with technical author and test team in the development of test protocols for production and FAT tests
