Job Description

Excel Primary Care are seeking to recruit a clinical coder. The practice is a paper-light environment, and the main responsibilities of the post-holder will be to summarise and code using relevant information from patient’s clinical records into the practice computer system, through EMIS Web and Docman, working strictly in accordance with the practice coding protocol. A good understanding of medical terminology is required. Knowledge of EMIS Web and Docman is desirable.Main duties/key tasks:The successful applicant will have excellent IT skills, be able to manage their workload to a high standard, be enthusiastic, and a team player who is able to use their initiative.

  • Dealing with all incoming electronic and paper correspondence.
  • Coding diseases, investigations, examinations, allergies and observations in the patient medical record.
  • Coding appropriately pharmacy administered vaccinations.
  • Familiar in the use of templates and appropriate Snomed codes.
  • Trouble shooting and rectifying errors in appropriate manner.
  • Dealing with workflow and tasks generated by clinical team and non-clinical team
  • Liaise with secondary care when clinical and non-clinical concerns with incoming documents for patient are highlighted. Clinical concerns to be raised with GP also.
  • Liaise with patients when required.
  • Participate with QOF related work to support existing staff.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own and team activities and making suggestions on ways to improve and enhance the team’s performance.
  • Work effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patients’ needs.
  • Effectively manage own time, workload and resources.
