Job Description

My client is seeking a Lab Manager for a small team based in Sittingbourne.The ideal candidate will have experience in managing a lab and team, alongside experience in immunology/protein expression/assay development/antibody production/antigen extraction.In this role you will be involved in:

  • Ensuring the smooth running of the laboratory
  • Managing budgets
  • Identifying and evaluating capital equipment and negotiating with suppliers
  • Implementing automation into the laboratory
  • Implementing KAIZEN philosophy in the laboratory
  • Identifying and hiring new staff when necessary
  • Mentor, supervise and train laboratory staff
  • Write Standard Operating Procedures
  • Work with laboratory team when demand is high and providing cover during holidays
  • Manage by walking’ to identify process improvement opportunities, adherence to Health & Safety rules and ensure a high standard of the general lab environment
    • To be considered you will have a BSc or MSc in a Scientific subject and have experience of working in a supervisory position in a commercial laboratory setting.The following skills/attributes would also be desirable.
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to develop relationships with colleagues
  • Ability to create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintain accurate laboratory records
  • Strong continuous improvement mindset
  • Excellent computer skills e.g. Microsoft Office
