Job Description

For over 20 years our client has partnered with businesses, schools and major construction companies to guide and support their projects, tech strategies and day-to-day operations. With teams of highly qualified and experienced IT engineers and consultantsaround the UK, the business helps over 200 businesses use technology, designs sustainable ICT infrastructures for 100 schools and commercial buildings, and nurtures the ICT resources and dreams of 33,000 school children. We are now looking for an IT NetworkEngineer to join their busy, successful and growing team.IT Network EngineerBased at either Bromsgrove, Northampton or Sheffield offices with travel to clients’ sites and occasional working from home£40-50K + excellent benefits packagePosition summary:Our client is a successful MSP that has made five acquisitions in the last 7 years with an aspiration of being on the Top 100 IT Services list globally. Wea re now looking for a talented field based IT Network Engineer to join their team.To be successful in this role:You will be a confident IT Network Engineer with excellent experience of designing, implementing and troubleshooting network infrastructures. Other requirements for this role include demonstrable experience of the following:

  • Troubleshooting and configuration of WAN/LAN
  • In depth knowledge of Cisco / HP LAN equipment
  • Configuration of Wi-Fi networks including centralised management
  • Network infrastructure design including link aggregation / trunking, switch stacking, redundancy, LAN topologies and networking protocols etc
  • Physical cable patching of fibre and Ethernet
  • Experience and excellent understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, Routing, QoS/CoS, DNS
  • Network monitoring, troubleshooting and capacity planning
  • Experience with network security
  • CCNA/CCNP desirable but not essential
  • Strong virtualisation knowledge - VMWare, Hyper V etc
  • Strong knowledge of monitoring tools
Job role and responsibilities:As an IT Network Engineer, your day-to-day activities will include an interesting variety of network infrastructure planning/implementation, consultancy support and end-user training. Other responsibilities for this role include:
  • Lead design and delivery of network solutions leading the search for new technologies and techniques, striving to find the best solutions to the required design criteria
  • Convert self-gathered requirements quickly and efficiently into a full design and produce an enterprise level solution within the designed networking solution
  • Be comfortable articulating technical information to non-technical teams and individuals with a professional and approachable manner
  • Create, request, and present technical specifications and requirements for procurement of new networking equipment
  • Provide Level 2 and Level 3 Support for networking incidents, and
  • Act as an escalation point for Level 1 and Level 2 support technicians
  • Provide Infrastructure support/implementation in all areas needed, including but not limited to wide area network, local area network, firewalls, routers and WAN accelerators
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation relating to network topology, equipment, configuration, standards and procedures
  • Create designs, project plans, and implement these designs
  • Interface with third party vendors
  • Stay current with vendor changes, developments, and updates
