Key DetailsWork hours: 35 hours per week, Shifts Mornings and AfternoonsLocation: Hillsborough, SheffieldJob type: Permanent, Full-timeIndependent Forgings and Alloys (IFA) is one of Britains leading independent aerospace and industrial forgers. The unique feature about IFA is the combination of open and closed-die forging while also undertaking the whole production process from raw materialto the finished product in one location. Operating from a 680 000ft2 facility in Sheffield, we manufacture high-integrity, open-die and closed-die forged components in nickel alloy, titanium, stainless steel and carbon alloys for customers and tier-one supplierswithin the aerospace, nuclear, power generation, marine as well as oil and gas sector.Main Purpose of the RoleReporting to the Forge Supervisor, the purpose of this role is to produce open-die forgings using a variety of plant and equipment. Training will be provided to meet required skills standards and health and safety standards.Key AccountabilitiesYou will ultimately be responsible for:

  • Producing a range of different forged products (rings, blanks, blocks, boss forgings and bars) using some or all of the following equipment: forging hammers, hydraulic presses, ring mills, expanders and manipulating equipment.
  • Using suitable tooling required for the forging processes to produce quality products.
  • Monitoring machines and furnaces on a regular basis.
  • Hot stamping material at the end of the production process, including maintenance of stamps.
  • Inspecting and maintaining tooling used in the process.
  • Completing paperwork and forging identification, where required.
  • Cross training to allow flexible working across all units in the Forge.
  • Effective hand-over to colleagues from shift to shift as necessary.
  • Maintaining best housekeeping practices within the forge.
  • Ensuring equipment is used in a safe and proper manner in-line with company policy and procedures.
Skills and ExperienceEssential:
  • Experience in working with hot metal.
  • General manufacturing process awareness.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOP).
Good understanding of Health and Safety.Attention to detail.Self-motivated and determined to succeed.Good interpersonal skills, particularly teamwork.Process focused and compliant.Flexible and promote good working practices.QualificationsEssential:
  • Basic education to 5 GCSEs A-C including Maths and English.
Desirable:
  • Forklift Truck license.
  • Overhead crane license.
  • Basic computer skills.
