Job Description

The post holder is responsible for the provision of specialist Local Security Management advice; ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and for supporting the development of security strategies, policies and procedures in conjunction with senior colleagues.Senior Health & Safety Officer (LSMS)Sector: HealthcareLocation: Runwell, WickfordDuration: 12 Weeks potentially longerPay: £21.00 PAYE Inclusive - £24.50 UmbrellaJob Type: TemporaryDuration of temporary role: Expected to end of Jan 2021 and likely to be longerWorking days and hours: 37.5 hours, Monday to FridayDuties Include:

  • Raising the profile of health and safety, whilst influencing and engaging staff at all levels within the Trust.
  • Play a major role in raising awareness to tackle violence and aggression and general security management measures, and any subsequent advice or guidance issued
  • Facilitate excellent health & safety management and practice throughout the Trust including raising awareness and working with staff and senior managers to reduce the Trust’s exposure to all risks, advising managers to ensure a secure and safe environment for all Trust staff, patients and visitors.
  • Be instrumental in the safety of care to patients and staff through the implementation and development of health and safety strategies and systems, whilst providing expert support, advice and leadership on all health, safety issues and the delivery of appropriate training programmes.
  • Develop and have responsibility for the implementation and continued development of the Trust’s Health and Safety Strategy.
  • Lead on the security framework development and delivery within the Trust. To research, consider, analyse and advise on all new legislation and initiatives related to security and violence including implications for the Trust and develop the necessary implementation plans
  • To develop, monitor, implement and review strategies, policies and procedures to promote and develop best practice health and safety and security systems for the Trust, liaising with appropriate managers and ensuring compliance with statutory responsibilities, such as Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH) etc.
  • Assist in the implementation of the strategic and operational objectives for health and safety and security compliance, and to ensure effective coordination of the advice received from external experts with regard to statutory standards compliance.
  • Maintain an up to date and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of current, revised and evolving health & safety legislation, approved codes of practice and best practice procedure and other associated matters as well as their potential impact on the Trust.
  • Produce Trust wide health and safety policies which are reviewed annually or as appropriate and in line with best practice and statutory requirements.
  • Lead on the development and implementation of policy and procedures to encourage a culture where violence, abuse and security related incidents are openly reported and acted on across the Trust.
  • Participate in the development and ongoing review of the Trust and directorate strategies, policies and procedures in the management of risk.
  • Ensure that all corporate policies, procedures, practice and evidence are in place to meet the requirements of the CQC outcomes and regulations with regards to health and safety and LSMS.
  • Skills and Experience
  • Relevant experience working in a similar position of working in the Health & Safety field, within an NHS setting
  • Experience of management of violence issues within a mental health setting services and related training
  • Relevant experience in risk management work
  • Development and implementation of successful training and development programmes
  • Evidence of undertaking management of national and local targets
  • Evidence of undertaking work place risk assessments
