Job Description

Operations Manager (Warehouse and Logistics)Rugby, UK£45k- £50kThe CompanyA leading global Electrical Engineering production company seeking a highly experienced Operations Manager for its warehousing, Logistics and Distribution centre.The company is growing in size and revenue very fast and has fantastic management and employees all aiding this growth phase.We are looking for a highly driven and energised candidate who has a keen eye for problem solving and improving efficiency. The ideal candidate will come from an ex-forces background.Purpose and Scope of Job Responsibilities: To lead the day-to-day operations of the department(s) under the direction of the Operations Director, allocating and managing the resource to meet customer requirements in terms of quality and timeliness.Contribute to, and implement, plans to develop processes and people to meet current and future business needs. Ensure compliance to customer, health, safety, wellbeing and environmental requirements, and commitment to the principle of continuous improvement.Principle Accountabilities:

  • Drive a health and safety culture throughout the warehouse to the highest standards of compliance.
  • Ensure all statutory health and safety checks are completed in accordance with HSE legislation for example PUWER’s.
  • Ensure the warehouse operations has at all times supervisory, fork lift truck, first aid and fire marshal coverage.
  • Maintain Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) with regard to stock movements and turnaround times.
  • Track operational/tactical risks and proactively provide Operations Director with solutions and reports.
  • Respond to Voice of the Customer and other customer data feedback to ensure individual issues and trends are actioned appropriately.
  • Implement people resource and customer plans to meet forecast demand.
  • Support, drive and visually report continuous improvements and KPI’s within the warehouse, delivering tangible and measurable benefits.
  • Review and report on operational performance within the warehouse, to drive improvement and ensure there is an accurate understanding of stock availability.
  • Assist the Operations Director in delivering against stretch budgets, with plans and initiatives put in place to hit costs and reduce them in the longer term.
  • Ensure conformance and product investigation issues are communicated in a timely fashion and resolved at pace.
  • Conduct one appraisal and a minimum of three 1:2:1 documented meetings per employee, ensuring SMART and clear objectives are identified. All appraisals to be completed OTIF by deadline.
  • Ensure as a minimum 20 hours of personal learning and development opportunities are identified and recorded for each team member within the warehouse.
  • Performance manage individuals where necessary. Ensure PDP plans are constructed, communicated to the individual, copied to HR and loaded on the company’s performance management system.
  • Effectively coach and mentor employees within the warehouse and when requested, act as a mentor within other areas of the business.
  • Proactively plan, conduct and document weekly team briefings covering warehouse performance, deadlines, health, safety and environment. Provide a copy of these team briefings to your Operations Director.
  • Attend weekly meetings with a member of the HR team to ensure any people related matters are reported and proposed changes to headcount personnel.
  • Conduct investigatory meetings, disciplinary, grievance dismissal and where appropriate appeal hearings. Implement corrective action as necessary to ensure the effective performance and behaviours of employees throughout the warehouse.
  • Solicit and respond to employee feedback whilst gaining commitment and support.
  • Provide inspired leadership for the team and when stepping up for the Operations Director to the wider operational workforce.
  • Reinforce positive morale and uphold company values.
  • Proactive engagement with stakeholders to include but not limited to Sales Director. CS team members and Key Account Manager.
  • Knowledge/Skills, Experience and Personal Attributes:
  • Relevant experience of embedding a health, safety, environment and can-do culture in a warehouse environment.
  • Broad operational experience of delivery within a fast paced, complex environment
  • Excellent knowledge of production, planning & organising skills with the ability to demonstrate successful plan delivery
  • Experience of people management to meet demanding deadlines
  • Experience of delivering against budgets, including identifying and delivering ongoing cost reductions
  • Understands and exploits continuous improvement methodologies
  • Knowledge of Operational processes and systems
  • Highly numerate with excellent, proven analytical skills and able to forensically interrogate data.
  • Strong recent working knowledge of SAP.

  • Ability to creatively problem solve
  • Minimum ILM Level 5 or equivalent
