Job Description

  • Manage and develop a team of Principals and Platform Software Engineers, enabling them to work effectively by providing them with the necessary tooling and managerial support.
  • Work closely with the delivery, product and architecture teams to align platform deliverables with productivity, functional and quality of service requirements / roadmap.
  • Manage platform teams backlog and deliverables all the way to production.
  • Work with the Principal Software Engineers to minimise technical debt.
  • Work closely with the delivery team to ensure Principal Software Engineers are available for design sessions, code reviews and planning meetings, etc while also guarding their time so that they can contribute to the platform development.
  • Minimise software development hardship and improve productivity.
  • Ensure that delivery best practices (security, coding standards, etc) are automated and embedded into the delivery pipeline where possible.
  • Build consensus among the Principal, Platform Engineers and wider engineering community around technologies and working practices.
  • Run recruitment campaigns to hire highly skilled engineers or junior engineers / apprentices with high potential and drive changes in the interview process where required to improve recruitment efficiency.
  • Establish personal development plans for software engineers across the department.
  • Work with the Head of Delivery and Chief Architects leadership team to produce and manage resource plans
  • Day-to-day management of reporting staff and their activities.
  • Provide timesheet and expense summaries
  • Authorise direct reports holiday requests, absence forms, expense summaries and similar requests.
  • Process appraisals of direct reports
