Job Description

The role of a Staff Nurse is highly regarded within East Lancashire’s Endoscopy Service. Endoscopy services are functional on all 3 sites within East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, and the successful candidate will be expected to work across sites. The Burnley Endoscopy team work in a busy department currently with three procedure rooms operational over 7 days of the week, carrying out a wide variety of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and investigations. We deliver high standards of care to all our patients and are looking for a keen and motivated person to work alongside of our friendly, hardworking team.The post holder will undertake a range of duties which include:-

  • Establish a safe working environment for staff and patients, ensuring patient’s privacy and dignity at all times and working within the provision of Single Sexed Accommodation.
  • Arrange the reception, admission, implementation of care, recovery and nurse led discharge of patients following the Endoscopy Nursing Care Pathway protocols and documentation.
  • Take responsibility for a group of patients and act as team leader where appropriate
  • Provide competent assistance during a range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and ensure support and reassurance to patients undergoing same.
  • Gain understanding and occasional participation of the decontamination processes of all endoscopic equipment and have awareness of general and specific infection control measures and related issues
  • Perform I.V. cannulation and venepuncture as required
  • Maintain appropriate department documentation
  • Co-ordination of moving & handling needs of patients
  • Competent I.T. skills
  • General cleaning of clinical areas and equipment in accordance with Infection Control Policies.
  • Assist in maintenance of adequate stock levels
  • Utilise resources effectively and contribute to department’s Cost Improvement Programme
  • Mentor junior staff, students and cadets.
    • The successful candidate must be able to fit into the established team and have first rate interpersonal skills. Appropriate experience would be advantageous but training and support will be given. Applicants must be self-motivated and reliable. They will be required to work flexibly and have exceptional communication and organisational skills.
