Locum Consultant NephrologyBarking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) is a large provider of acute services, serving a population of over 750,000 in outer North East London.The hospital includes a hyper acute stroke unit (HASU), a large birthing centre, a renal dialysis unit and specialist neuroscience centre. The trust has a large Diabetes, Rheumatology and Urology service across both sites. The Emergency Department (ED) treats over 150,000 walk-in and ambulance emergencies each year. The Trust is undertaking significant further development as a tertiary referral centre for North East London and Essex, including additional critical care capacity. BHRUT has approximately 900 beds.The trust operates from two sites; Queens Hospital and King George Hospital, as well as peripheral sites at Barking, Dagenham and Brentwood. Queens Hospital is the trust’s main acute hospital and opened as a private finance initiative (PFI) in 2006. It is the main hospital for people living in Havering, Dagenham and Brentwood. King George Hospital opened at its current site in Ilford in 1995 and provides acute and rehabilitation services for residents across Redbridge, Barking & Dagenham, and Havering, as well as providing some services to patients from South West Essex.This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Nephrologist to join the Nephrology team to be based at Queens Hospital.Currently, there are three whole time equivalent Nephrologists working in the service. This post has arisen as part of our service-development strategy for Renal Medicine to provide an Acute Renal in-patient and referral service all-year round. The post holder will have a particular interest in Acute Kidney Injury and managing Clinical Governance in Nephrology. Applicants must have full GMC registration and be on the Specialist Register or be eligible for inclusion within six months of the interview date.The Renal service in BHRUT has close clinical and academic links with that in Barts Health NHS Trust which provides acute and chronic dialysis in a hub-and-spoke model. Duties will include management of general Nephrology patients both in the in and outpatient setting.
