Job Description

A well established, Lancashire based chemical company, part of a multinational group are currently recruiting for a Group Technical Manager to join their team.With expertise in the field of food, beverage or dairy hygiene chemicals, you will bring a wealth of knowledge to the company.Key responsibilities:

  • Based on a history of technical excellence direct the company in its provision of chemical solutions and associated services.
  • Manage the Technical Centre.
  • Set the specifications, plane and manage the project portfolio for business support and Innovation, lead the project leaders and be in charge of the regular review of the advancement of the projects. In charge of the reporting.
  • Stewardship for all chemical products sold by the company Group and ultimate responsibility for all aspects of products and solutions for food safety; including justifying why requests for new product developments might be turned down.
  • In conjunction with Sales and marketing, identify and implement opportunities for new products and new solutions, including sourcing new raw materials, monitoring and influencing suppliers for new developments to achieve a USP or additional product benefits.
  • Identification of business-critical range gaps through horizon scanning of customer trends and include potential raw material shortages identify by the purchasing. Report these gaps as inputs to the marketing
  • Provide technical advice to customers and field staff, this will include advice on company Group products and solutions and other general technical questions associated with the use of chemical solutions for food safety.
  • Take into account legislative and admin processes, in accordance with Regulatory affairs, to complete new product development, factory trials, launch and roll-out, including managing and directing experienced formulation chemists and participating in field trials and investigations outside of normal office hours.
  • In conjunction with regulatory affairs, take into account the impact of legislation on the product range
  • In conjunction with Purchasing, consider procurement of raw materials on basis of need, costs and efficacy and monitor up-stream supply lines to anticipate shortages and maintain adequate levels of product supply through raw material shortages. Responsibility for approval of all raw materials used within the group.
  • Work with Operations to ensure product quality, safe product manufacture and correct labelling requirements
  • Represent company in appropriate Chemical Industry Trade Associations and Meetings
  • Knowledge, skills and experience:
  • A higher degree in appropriate scientific discipline, ideally Chemistry.
  • Chartered status (or demonstration of equivalence).
  • Minimum of 10 years relevant scientific or technical experience, ideally in the chemical formulation industry with products targeted to food, beverage and dairy manufacture, food service, hospitality, domestic hygiene and transport industries.
  • Ability to rapidly apply technical knowledge to provide practical solutions often by teasing out from non-technical staff and customers what the real problem is.
  • Demonstrated record of initiative, project management, problem solving, and adaptability
  • Evidence of leadership responsibilities including the ability to implement principles of management, leadership, conflict resolution, negotiation, and motivation.
  • Proven ability to communicate technical information via e.g. referred publications, trade articles, conference presentations, industry workshops and working groups.
  • Knowledge of or participation in product manufacture and quality control.
