Job Description

My client a well-known business in the Tredegar area is seeking to recruit an interim Assistant Accountant to join its business on a 9 - 12-month Fixed Term Contract to cover maternity leave.A salary of £32,500 plus benefits as well as a retention bonus of 2k is on offerThe main purpose of the role is to assist the Senior Accountant in the preparation of the monthly and annual accounts, supporting financial reports and periodic budgeting and forecasting with specified deadlines.The successful candidate will be able to undertake all tasks accurately and effectively whilst maintaining excellent internal and external relationships, resolving any queries that arise. The Assistant Accountant will also be tasked with providing managementinformation as and when required and contribute towards the departmental objectives and targets whilst maintaining a professional approach at all timesYou will also deputise in the absence of the Financial Controller and Senior Accountant.Working alongside and reporting to the Senior Account the successful candidate will undertake various monthly tasks that contribute to the accurate financial reporting of the company.Reporting into the Senior Accountant, the main duties to include -

  • Responsibility for accurate reporting, payment and audit of company VAT
  • Reconciliation, reporting and audit of stock and stock adjustments
  • Line management of an Assistant Accountant
  • Oversee and review the responsibilities of the Assistant Accountant to ensure accurate reconciliation and reporting of Cash & Bank, Intercompany, debtors, Creditors and expenses
  • Preparation of the monthly prepayments
  • Reconciliation of the balance sheet control accounts
  • Monthly reconciliation, recording and settlement of Supplier rebates
  • Gross profit allocation and reconciliation of supplier contributions
  • Support the Senior Accountant in the preparation of the weekly P&L forecast
  • Deal with finance queries from senior stakeholders
  • Support the Senior Accountant in the preparation and review of the monthly management accounts
  • Support the Senior Accountant in cost controls, preparing cost centre reports and attending monthly meetings
  • Prepare financial information for monthly SMT meetings
  • Month end reporting to include working capital, CAPEX and stock analysis
  • Ad hoc accounting duties as and when requested by FC and Senior Accountant
Requirement of the role -
  • Technically sound accountant who is ACCA / CIMA PQ or QBE
  • Solid business partnering skills with proven communication, presentation and influencing skills with various stakeholders
  • Ability to work flexibly, pro-actively and under pressure to meet deadlines
  • String computer literacy including intermediate Excel using Pivots, LookUps etc
  • Experienced of SAP or a similar ERP system
My client operates a hybrid working policy once training has been complete. The hybrid policy will be 1 - 2 days WFH per week.Please note that the full duration of the assignment needs to be completed in order to qualify for the retention bonus.
