Job Description

HV System ControllerReporting to the High Voltage System Control MangerBased in: Teesside (Middlesbrough), with potential wider UK travel - ad-hoc basis.Salary: Negotiable - Whilst all salaries are graded, Sembcorp are keen to attract, retain and develop the highest calibre of colleague. Also, the company offer a market leading benefits package and annual bonus.Position overview:To ensure, through own efforts and those of the senior authorised, shift operations and high voltage teams, that the Wilton International high voltage distribution assets are operated and maintained safely, efficiently and optimally.To set and maintain technical standards required to meet legislative and operational requirements of the high voltage power distribution equipment at Wilton International Site.To control all site HV activities (maintenance and contracting) via the use of the work Control Permit system and Site HV safety Rules.To ensure that power metering systems are managed such that the monthly accountancy process runs smoothly and timely and that records, defects, calibrations, standards and metering logic is developed and maintained to meet the current and future needs ofthe company.Key responsibilities:

  • To ensure all High Voltage switching is done safely and to the desired business and legislative standards.
  • Operate with a high standard of safety first
  • Provide specialist technical advice on repairs and failure of equipment in area of responsibility regarding investigations.
  • Set, operate and monitor safe control of work systems and operational standards (High Voltage operating rules) in High Voltage distribution areas and customer assets) through the Utilities shift operating and high voltage day teams (not directly reportingto the role).
  • Identify and champion improvement initiatives to improve Utilities High Voltage switching.
  • Build relationship with customers and Sembcorp UK commercial team to provide point of contact for High Voltage switching communications and customer queries.
  • Provide stand in for nominal holidays, training & sickness
  • Responsibility for managing the electrical metering systems including critical monthly meter reading accuracy and volume verification and leading metering improvement and development initiatives
  • Provide training to the business within the scope of department
  • Prepared to be called out for abnormal occurrences & emergencies appertaining to the distribution systems
  • Carry out SHE activities in line with SembCorp SHE policy
  • Provide High Voltage & electrical engineering support to the Utilities business Main Power Station.
  • Organise, plan and execute safely, high voltage maintenance, repairs and commissioning tests through day to day management of the high voltage team.
  • Guide and coach, the electrical distribution team, carry out tasks in support of the business needs.
  • Carry out cable location detection for excavation certificates.
  • Provide project management leadership regarding HV projects and fault repairs
  • Investigate and advise on the replacement and upgrading of electrical equipment
  • Carry out responsibilities as Site Operating Rules - Grade 1 (Senior Authorised Person - up to and including 66kV)
  • Provide technical support, policy advice and expertise to the business
Essential
  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent (Trade Specific)
  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • HNC (Desirable)
